Nowadays (he prices), I would definitely
save the money and time and skip OC TX courses. There is no big miracle about brething a helium mix in general and theoretical and practical knowledge of that is not different from breathing it OC and CC.
However, I personally benefited a lot from hundreds of gas-switch dives (Bottom gas - mainly air to deco gases), before I actually got into rebreather diving.
So I guess, having done a deco procedures/ adv. nitrox course and being used to juggling around with stages, gas switches
etc. is helping a lot to have some BO routine.
I got my experience diving sidemount. Really it was the only reason I did sidemount. To get accustomed to gas changes and dealing with slung bottles. The wing was sold off and the regs converted into my bailouts. Going to say it was the right move for me. I could have thrown the wing in the trash and it would have been less expensive than OC trimix classes these days. With my instructor I feel there was enough covered that I didn't miss anything.

About all I lack is the planning a proper descent on OC trimix. I can probably figure it out, or be taught in half an hour if it ever came to it. Really it will never happen.
