This will be my last post on this subject. I was looking for Extreme service kits on ebay. Every once in a while a few pop up for sale. I came across an Extreme for sale and this is what the seller put in the discription reference getting it serviced. "HOWEVER - The tech informed me that he could not successfully adjust the pressure setting for the second stage to meet factory specs. These second stages are apparently notoriously difficult to adjust and deteriorate with age." I don't know if this is true or not, but it helped me make my decision. Thanks to all for their input and suggestions.

I came across an Extreme for sale and this is what the seller put in the discription reference getting it serviced. "HOWEVER - The tech More than likely also gets a commision for selling a new regulator informed me that he could not successfully adjust the pressure setting for the second stage to meet factory specs unless he went searching for the tech manual that hasn't been used for a while. These second stages are apparently notoriously difficult to adjust and deteriorate with age again, I do not want to mess with this reg, but since you are thinking of a new one, let me give you another reason." I don't know if this is true or not, but it helped me make my decision. Thanks to all for their input and suggestions.

It sounds like you want to get a new regulator anyhow... it is possible to service your reg, but Dacor parts are getting scarce. It's up to you...

The octopus was a Dacor Enduro and I was outbreathing it just slightly because I was sucking wind getting quickly back to the mooring line into a current. As soon as I calmed down a bit, it was fine.

Maybe you could just get a new primary 2nd? The octo would've been harder to breathe unde exertion because the cracking pressure (ie the amount of negative pressure necessary to get the flow of air going) would've been adjusted to a higher setting to prevent free flows. As you stated, when calm, the octo was fine. Therefore, the 1st stage was also fine. You seem to currently have a working 1st stage and octo. Maybe a franken reg would be fine (ie a 2nd stage from another manufacturer). But as fishboy noted, it seems you;ve got your mind made up. Happy hunting! :)
