wow over a hundred posts for a 6 foot deep hand dug well that some Maine-iac found.

Probably a cistren 12ft deep,early 1900s that caught rainwater from gutters for drinking. I dug up one remodling a house. It had bottles and coins in it. This one was under the old house? Supposedly only wealthy people had them way back then?

The one I found was brick so this one may be pretty old or not even what I guess

If you are referring to me as a Maine-iac, you are wrong. I was not born and raised in Maine, therefore I am not a Mainer-iac; I just live here, for now (?)

28' now 25' thanks to three feet of muck. Probably a gun down there from some long forgotten crime. Dark, cold, and no visibility. Sounds like fun (no sarcasm). I wish I had one in my backyard.

I am not going to read all 100+ post on this subject but has anyone suggested a heavy weight attached to a rope/cable and lowering it till it stops, mark water line, remove and measure. As for whats down there, if it's not to deep, pump it out then dredge it, you may find who knows what.

My first task will be a weighted line to determine depth. If it's deep enough to warrant a dive I will seek permission as well as draw a water sample for analysis.

Being a Maine-iac is not a bad thing, I spent most of my life in Maine and consider myself a Maine-iac. Being a Maine-iac is much better then the Desert Rat I am slowly turining into....
