I don't get it either. But what can you do- you even have SB staff trolling around flaming solo divers (Check out the other thread ("RIP solo diver")). -->
You seem to misunderstand. That is not trolling or flaming.
As a solo diver, are you living under some misapprehension that the activity is without risks?
Or that those risks should not be debated, assessed and understood, by those who wish to be involved in it?
I SOLO DIVE.
In fact, I solo dive inside wrecks, doing technical penetration and deco. I've solo dived to 260'...at night. I've solo dived many hundreds of times.... so please don't patronize me, or quote me out of context because you feel persecuted... or don't want to hear the truth of the matter.
I feel very strongly about solo diving. I believe that it is a legitimate and enjoyable activity - and most often it offers certain benefits that team diving doesn't bring. That said, there are risks. There are pros and cons. There is a need for superior training and experience. There is a need for having the right mindset. There are equipment considerations.
Solo diving is fine... but risks exist and have to be mitigated. I am opposed to divers who conduct the activity and either don't understand the risks, or bother to mitigate them.
The solo diver forum is a flame-free zone. But it isn't a reality-free zone.
Mentioning a 'negative' issue might be traumatic experience for the more deluded participants in this forum... but that's life. Open your eyes.
Solo divers shouldn't be living in a cosy little bubble of invulnerability.
