Bravo to you my friend. Just take the SCUBA ‘easy does it’ I have have to do the same. Headed to FL to reunite w/my vdh Doublehose friends in Mid-April. I am looking forward to some easy dives with clear water, warm, no current ( except the drift dive in Rainbow River ). I have Myasthenia Gravis, AFIB and blind in my left eye but really want to get wet. I am not really old but I have to contend with these conditions. The AFIB I have been diving with before no problems. If interested in meeting really interesting and eccentric divers, please DM me.

I'll turn 65 later this year, and got certified first in 2020. A year ago, four years after first certification, I had a total of about 40 dives. I decided to get serious about it, got about 80 dives in, and passed GUE Tech Fundamentals a couple weeks ago.

I'm 49 going to 50 in 2025.
First time I took SCUBA lesson was in 1996, but was not certified until mid 1997.
Reason that it took so long to get certified was I first took the lesson with the SCUBA Club at work. The instructor of the club was Non-active status instructor . About a year later I resigned from that company so I can't join club dive anymore, that's when I find active status instructor to get certified.
Oh.... it's almost 30yrs now...

Lucky you ! I'm jealous... 53 also, but been diving only for 35 years.
