(2) set up for doubles
(1) set up for a single
(1) single set up for pool (nasty chlorine) use
(2) for deco bottles
(1) for a stage bottle
(1) for airgon (suit inflation)
(1) cheap old reg for inflating tires
(1) double hose

...OMG. When you put it all down it sure looks like a lot!

All the best, James

That's pretty much what I have except that my primary regulator is almost always one of my double hose regulators and the single hose regulators are backup or secondary use, even on deep or technical dives. About the only time I don't dive a double hose regulator is when I dive with my rebreather.

I think for the average rec diver one well maintained good quality reg is just fine. That said having a few spare parts is worth while - for instance a spare hoses, o-rings, zip ties etc.

When moving to carrying a pony bottle I always recommend folks buy a reg that is just as good as the primary.

That said we have plenty:

(2) set up for doubles x 2 cause the wife dives doubles as well
(2) for deco bottles
(1) for airgon (suit inflation)
(1) cheap old MR12 reg for inflating tires
(1) double hose (being rebuilt)

It should be noted that most divers are perfectly fine with just 1 set.

I have a lot of regs because my hobby is buying used ones on eBay, rebuilding them and selling them back. I have trouble passing up a "good deal." but the main problem is the "selling them back part" I seem to forget about so they remain wrapped up in plastic bags in my closet.

Hmmmm, does that make me a closet regulator collector?

Couv

Couv, it is time for an "intervention". You'll feel much better when all the those regulators in plastic bags are "out of the closet" (and safely placed in mine :D). We'll be over shortly. :rofl3:

Serious answer to the OP: Tech divers need mutilple regs, the rest of us merely want them, but have convinced ourselves we need them :D

Me: I currently have eight regulators. Like couv, the most recent three were bought as "fixer-upper's" on ebay... only one is in a plastic bag at the moment, the rest go diving regularly

Best wishes.

Lets just face it.... They do breed on their own... I thought I had 3.... Then I opened up my spare parts box and realized that they had just bred, like chrome plated bunnies. There was a conshelf XIV looking for a place to get used!

2x MK25's and 2x 109's (modded to BA's) for my twins
1x MK20 and 1x 109 (BA) for O2 deco
1x MK2 and G250 for 40% deco
1x MK20 and G250 and Atomic SSI for my off board dil/bailout on my IDA 71
1x Apeks DS4 for O2 for IDA rebreather

Plus...
Clear G250
MK5 sealed
A few odds and sods.

Ok, I've got a Scuba Pro 550 and have been thinking about getting another for either a backup or a pony.

Yet I see some of you with 4, 5 or more. Simple question: Why so many?

Thanks

:idk: Conshelfs are cheaper buy the dozen :shakehead: I guess over the last 35 years I just ended up with them. They work great and last for ever. Who's going to get rid of something that works. Oh, I got some double regs too, can't part with a classic :shocked2:

Very much dependent on the nature and frequency of the dives. My dives range from just below the kelp canopy to a max depth of 200 ft. I don't normally dive true doubles, just a main tank and pony for redundancy (I dive solo 95% of the time). I may do as many as 350 dives a year.

I only have four. Three are Mk10/G250s and my pony is a Mk2+/G250. I keep several DIN Mk10/G250s so that I can send one in for servicing and still have a backup or be ready to dive doubles. I would like another as a loaner for friends who visit.

The infrequent rec diver can easily get by with one since they can service it in between their dives.

Did my wife put you up to this?

I always carry (to the dive site) a complete backup reg, ready to use, so

2 regs with din valves for my HP100.

2 regs with yoke valves for AL tanks and travel.

1 reg just for shallow river dives (only a single 2nd stage)

1 reg for my pony

1 novelty reg (Mk7) just for the hell of it.

And a drawer full of spare stages because....
