i can easily see having 2 regs, ideally 2 is the way to go 1 primary 1 backup. You also gotta figure setup for deco, plus if you like nostalgia stuff or cold water dives you could add more of a reg variety

I'm a strictly warm water rec diver with three regs: one Atomic and two Sherwoods.

Unless my son goes diving with me, at which point I lose one of the Sherwoods.

And unless my wife goes with us, at which point I lose the other Sherwood.

Maybe I really only have one, come to think of it. :idk:

a ) Healthy divers family with 2 kids (< 15) :
2 x Atomic TX2 for Dad
2 x AL Mikron (but the black for Johnny and the pink for Jane)

b) Same family of 4 with little less to spend on scuba gear
4 x SP Mk17/G250

c) a more stingy family:
4 x Oceanic GT3/CDX5

So with any of these configs, you have backup, can almost pretend you are ready for tech, and still do simple rec diver with the all family !

Wow, what a bunch of gear hounds! :rofl3:

However I have a few:

2 Zeagle 50/DS with four or five ZX first stages.
1 scubapro something or other that I use on my pony, and a second stage for that.

So I think I am doing well with just three, and various seconds. I'm not a tech diver. Actually many tech divers I know are not either if you look at what they dive! A lot of gear, a lot of training, but little in the way of actually using those skills...

You should have one, there is no maximum:

Single hose regs
2 x Abyss Explorers (Poseidon 1st with Kirby Morgan Super flow 2nds)
1 Poseidon Jetstream (20 years old, my 1st deep reg)
1 Poseidon Cyclon
1 USD SE2
2 knock arounds for the kids in the pool

Double Hose regs
DA Navy approved
DW Stream Air
DW Mistral
DA Aqua Master
DA Aqua Master/Pheniox Nozzle Conversion
Royal Aqua Master (RAM)
Voit Blue Fathom 50
Voit single stage downstream on the bench

1. I have one Zeagle envoy deluxe as a recreational setup for my wife or another buddy.

2. I have one Zeagle envoy deluxe as a recreational setup for myself.

3. I have one Zeagle envoy deluxe as a deco reg.

4. I have one Zeagle envoy deluxe for my left post on my technical setup.

5. I have one Zeagle flathead VI for my right post on my technical setup.

I would get two more. One flathead VI or VII to replace my left post on my technical setup and make that current envoy deluxe as a second deco reg. I would also have a spare (probably in a simple recreational configuration) that I could use for parts in the field if something else was not functioning properly and I didn't have time to do an actual repair.

So 5 right now and seven in the future. I am happy I no longer have to redo everything when I want to go from recreational to technical. Of course I'll end up with a rebreather at some point and then many of the regs will collect dust or be sold.

Man, some of you guys could open a regulator store. I feel "lacking"....

I do think I should get another to have as a backup.
