It gets really interesting when your buddy uses a PSI gauge and your gauge is BAR...

The several times I've had insta-buddies with metric, the simplest solution was for each of us to signal what our SPG read (me in 100's of psi, him in 10's of bar).

The only time metric and imperial units caused a problem was with an instabuddy that normally used metric and was using imperial rental gear. He just absolutely could not get a handle on the conversions, so he didn't have a clue as to what the markings on the gauge meant. "1500psi = 1/2 tank = 100bar", and "70 bar per 1000psi" were just too complicated for him.

Since it was a shallow reef dive, I finally just said something like --- "See this yellow section. We should be headed back at that point. See this red part. We should be at safety stop or on the boat."
