paintsnow:
my question to the members of sb is what are your procedures for acending from a dive.

please include the following:
-how many feet per minute
-how long of a safety stop do you do if you do one
-at what dept do you do the stop
-do you do deep stops

im looking for replyes from everybody even deco divers
im just here to learn more and i really need to figure out what the safe acent rate is

also i think i recall somebody telling me how the rates should be 60 fpm until 30 feet then 30 feet per min
is that correct or am i getting the numbers mixed up?

i would like to thank anybody that contributes in advance

Jeez man. Didn't they cover this in class?

Your ascent rate should be 30 fpm max. On deep dives its recommended to do a "deep stop" at half your max depth (for at least a minute), and in all cases you should do a safety stop at 15 ft for at least 3 minutes.

Bill51:
Now the question is do you do the deep stop at half the gauge depth or do you use Haldane’s theory and do it at half the absolute depth?

While I have no problem (and will) ascend at 60fpm below 60', I do want to average 30fpm all the way to my safety stop. Below 60 foot I check my watch before my ascent and if I arrive at my safety stop before the time needed for a 30fpm average rate of ascent I add the remaining time to my 3 minutes.
I do my deep stop at 1/2 the depth since I'm ascending to 1ATA not vacuum. As far as the small bubble thing: That's one of the reasons I like my old Aqualand (the Titanium analong watch with digital depth gauge) for 60 F/M I do 10 feet on the gauge/10 seconds on the watch, for 30 F/M I do 5 feet on the guage/10 seconds on the watch.

Thalassamania:
Damn good advise, but the problem is that the smallest bubble keeps getting bigger!<G> Anyone remember those little yellow balls that were suppost to float up at 60 F/M? I've still got a few sets somewhere in the garage.

Yeah "Dive Bubles" first dive in the ocean and they all floated away. What a gimick. Dam I think that were like 20 bucks or something.
