My last two dives (with a nice bunch of people from ScubaBoard) in Monterey, my hood kept filling up with air. I had to continually press out the air, and was thinking it might even be messing with my buoyancy. I have heard here on the board to put a hole in the top of the hood, does this really work to prevent air from building up inside the hood? This is a serious question, but with the nature of the board, funny replies will be rated on funniness.
Thanks in advance for your replies.
I put cut in the top of mine, now it doesen't balloon like that anymore.

HAHA!

Yeah, take a nail and hold it with a pair of pliers, heat it up RED hot <snip>

One hole is enough. Careful about making too many <snip>.

Wouldn't you need 2, so you have redundancy? (Or would this only be if you are DIR?)

Have you tried using a hood that fits????

JeffG:
Might as well ask for the Sun to never set while you are at it.
Funniness rating: 7 :D

DOH!!! I like it... LOL! :eyebrow:

The hood on one of my wifes hooded vests was a little roomy on top and was catching air, it didn't have a vent. I ended up slicing a crescent out of it for a tailored fit, gluing the seam and blind stitching it (not that tough). I then burned a few vents in the top with the hot nail trick.

She said it was messing up her mask, causing leaks. I'm sure it was messing up her bouyancy but that was the less obvious problem. I don't quite understand the mask connection but she's golden now so I'm not complaining.

I soldering iron will work as well as a hot nail and is a little less aggravation. Burn several small holes in the top of the hood and a couple near the ears to allow water to flow in and replace the air. Every now and then a little pat on the top of the head might be required to empty all of the air.

If you can't find a hood off the shelf that fits, custom hoods might be the answer.

Sorry, nothing comical tonight.

The hood seems to fit alright, but I alternate from exhalling through the reg and through my nose, this helps purge my mask of water (mustache leak). When I exhale through my nose, I think this is when the air gets into the hood (I don't know I can't see it). But it sounds like I'll be trying some hoes in the hood. :D

Our dry suit hood have holes in the top. Last camp/dive trip I was feeling under the weather and chose to snorkle above him and a friend while they dove. Now. I consider myself a serious person but I never laffed so hard in my life. I now call him bubble head. guess you had to be there but it does look very funny.

Ahhh, the mask skirt is under the hood and when you exhale out of the mask it gets trapped in the hood. Makes sense. Start making holes.....
