AG has no relation with GUE, and anyone who has taken instruction from him doesn't either.
Hmmm ... I personally know at least a coupla dozen divers who've taken instruction from Andrew who were, and still are, GUE certified.

Just because the agency parted ways with the man doesn't mean they excommunicated all of his former students ...

Gideon Liew is a protege of Andrew Georgitsis, and one of the best Scuba Instructors in all of South East Asia. Other Instructors I would recommend in the Region are Martin Lorenzo, Dave Ross and Sam Collett in Puerto Galera Philippines.
I can vouch for Gid, having taken fundies with him in 2004. You will not find a finer instructor in South East Asia. After that take the courses you need to get to the point of diving needed. Fundies is in my opinion the best dive training anyone can get as foundation .

JeffG brought up AG's name in post #14 refering to AG as a GUE type instructor (yes, I know that Jeff knows that AG is no longer with GUE).

In hundreds of posts I've read where divers who take courses from AG or Joe Talavera believe that they the are getting DIR or GUE instruction. Nope.

Well... I'm pretty sure that they're getting DIR instruction... just not GUE certification. I realize some might argue that point, of course.

He trained a heck of a lot of GUE divers in the past. I expect these fellas would disagree with you.

Hmmm.

I'm saying that anyone who has taken instruction from AG since he left GUE is not getting DIR and GUE instruction, nor will they. I never said that he wasn't a good instructor (he's with NAUI now, my agency).

The point to the OP was that he was getting instruction recommendations from some posters concerning agencies, and instructors, based on perceived reputation and not from personal experience.

just to add on... who do you think trained all the Tech 1 instructors?

Then recommend an Instructor in Singapore or Southeast Asia of the same high caliber, stock or lineage --Otherwise (and y'all know who you are) . . .S*T*F*U

Hey Skywalk . . .a good start to find the information you need to make an informed choice is the Techasia website. My recommendation is to go with Gideon Liew and GUE, since his shop is conveniently right there in Singapore (Upper Circular Road, The Riverwalk) . . .just drop on by and talk with him (and also discuss what you've read in this thread ;) )
Thanks for all the replies. Very funny to see how things unfold hahah :)
anyway, yes Gideon is who i plan to do fundies with next year. The other instructor is a course director with decades of diving experience, and I did OW all the way to rescue and nitrox with him. Apart from instructor (and even grad-school professors out there may not make good teachers if character and communication skills are lacking) how's the material in IANTD/TDI/DSAT/GUE? I dont know any IANTD instructors so I think that's out for me. And my 2 TDI-trained friends and one instructor I know keep getting the bends so i'm also VERY put off by that(no they dont know each other)

Just to pile on some more . . .who was given proper due credit & acknowledgement in the Intro to Dan MacKay's Book, Dress for Success?

After taking courses from all the agencies noted above, GUE has the better reading and lecture material (for DVD's however, AG and 5thd-X has the better videos . . )

DIR is not GUE just so you know it is true the GUE got its roots from DIR but is no longer DIR and AG is a from of DIR. :D
