I think Richard has it right ... at least be honest enough to know what's enforceable.

I've known several smokers who lied about it and took Fundies. I knew one dude who used to work and teach at our local GUE shop who smoked openly ... you'd see him lighting up right in front of the shop. He was a really nice guy, and a helluva diver, but he did smoke ... and he also had done GUE classes at least thru Tech 1.

Having the rule is one thing ... enforcing it is something else altogether ...

You can lie at the low levels, but I doubt you can lie your way through a C2 course, where you're around your teammates for 5 days. Yes, I would rat it out, too. If I were in a course where a direct ascent to the surface was not possible, and found out my teammate smoked, I would ask that the teammate be replaced or I receive a full refund. My life isn't something I want to leave in the hands of someone who might be thinking about their next fix, sorry.

is angel dust prohibited? I have my eyes on a rebreather down the road but if I can't smoke my PCP I'm gonna have to go with one of those other machines instead I guess

Start a few threads complaining about it...be sure to back your arguments up with poor excuses and flawed logic. I'm sure JJ will read it and give a darn. (People try this with smoking all the time)

does it ever work for them?

I don't disagree with you ... I'm just saying it does happen.

FWIW - I wouldn't want to take a class where I'm required to do air shares with a smoker. Real air share would be different ... but for practicing, I don't want to have to put a reg in my mouth that tastes like an ashtray.

Well.. I smoke, I go to the gym about 5 times a week and run and cycle alot.. Smoking is something I've been bought up around, and at the moment I have no intention to quit smoking..

Sorry if this thread has been created before..
I admit I didn't search

I just wondered why it was there..?
I'm fit, and yes I would probably be fitter if I didn't smoke, but I'm still in alot better shape than most people..
And my SAC rate is better than alot of divers I've dived with.

And the Reg tasting like ashtray/smoke.. Come on?
I don't have a Cigarette for at LEAST 20 minutes before a dive because of the increased pulse/blood pressure..

What I find hilarious is the fact that some seem to think that the desire for a smoke removes all ability to think rationally and quickly. Just another example of people trying to support their feelings with nothing more than fluff.

If you do not like smokers, then at least man up and tell them that is why you do not want to buddy up with them. Creating a BS excuse like "You'll be thinking about smoking" is ridiculous.

there's a good article on this in the very first quest magazine. I would post it but I don't want GUE releasing the hounds on me.
you can buy a copy on gue.com if you're interested

Oh well this changes everything, you should totally write to GUE and tell them that. Im sure they will be so impressed and let you right in.
