I've been trying to justify SCUBA expenses by claiming that diving enforces good lifestyle choices. I eat better, sleep more and party less since I've been diving. I do, however, go to bars more on weekdays because I no longer drink before dive days (ie weekends). Might be a wash.

It leaves me with less money for coke, strippers, and heroin, so I see it as a win.

I think thats odd IMO.. I smoke, I enjoy smoking and don't care about its detrimental affects.. I also love diving, its what I was born to do..
but saying if I smoke I can't dive do Fundys..

We all make choices in life - I can respect your choice to smoke (though please don't do it near me), but you have to respect someone's choice to not accept smokers.

I'd ask yourself "why do you want to do Fundies?".

There are alternatives. A good Intro to Tech class may be an option - though I would turn you away from mine as I don't teach smokers either. Mostly for my own health and well being, though there is also an element of not wanting to accept the risks.

You may find that the UTD Essentials class an alternative - I beleive that the UTD stance is "no smoking around diving activities", though don't quote me on that as I am not that familiar with the UTD standards.

I love crack cocaine! And 3 packs of cigarettes a day:shakehead::shocked2::mooner:

there's only a couple hundred of these threads in the archives already...

if you're really looking for any compassion, opening up another trolling thread like this does not help. its about as useful to your cause as blowing smoke in my face.

GUE/DIR diving is premised upon team diving. If one does not care about themselves, how can they be expected to care about their team?

No smoking in class, I'm guessing cause that's all that's realistically enforcable by an agency anyway. Sets a disappointingly low standard afterwards tho.

I think Richard has it right ... at least be honest enough to know what's enforceable.

I've known several smokers who lied about it and took Fundies. I knew one dude who used to work and teach at our local GUE shop who smoked openly ... you'd see him lighting up right in front of the shop. He was a really nice guy, and a helluva diver, but he did smoke ... and he also had done GUE classes at least thru Tech 1.

Having the rule is one thing ... enforcing it is something else altogether ...
