Hi there,

I'm a new diver looking at buying regs that are suitable for cold water.
Has anyone used the Genesis GS2000 or Atlas in cold water? Any feedback on them?
I'm also looking at Sherwood Blizzard regs.

Cheers

Anton

we have been using 3 sets for 2 years. the coldest we have used them to is 38 deg and we have not had problems with them. most of our diving is on the colder side as we are located in maryland. they are enviromentaly sealed.

Genesis s2000 is not a good cold water reg seen them freeze lots of time had to do many of a rescue because of those regs sherwood blizards are good regs just dont breath good past 60 feet Best bet seald atomic z2 or apeks tx50

Had and used G2000 on many of dives in very cold water (2-3oC) without any problems of "freezeing" or "rescue" scenarios.

The first stages are sealed, blanced pistons that will deliver very well under any conditions, and the second stages are balanced as well -- good performers over all.

GS2000 is a great reg and you shouldnt have any problems, but its not designed for cold water. THe blizzard on the other hand is designed for cold water applications....

How are you going to be using it? Are you going ice diving? What are you considering "cold water"..........give us a bit more detail so we can help you pick a good first reg.....and welcome to the board :D

The one and only reg I have had freeze up on me was a Genesis Oz Ti, the second stage of which I think is very much like a G2000. This was in water that wasn't that cold - maybe 42 degrees. Could be that the reg wasn't tuned well, but it froze pretty fast after free-flowing (intentionally, I was purging it on purpose.) I dive Scubapro G250s now (old style) I haven't froze one yet.

Over a lot of years and a lot of testing (30+) we settled on the Sherwood’s. The Blizzard’s are good and breathe well if they are set up properly. The reg we choose to use as a team many, many years ago and still use today is the Maximus. We have absolutely no plans on changing to anything else. They are basically a truck and we abuse the daylights out of them.

Every other reg we tested we were able to freeze up without much effort. The ONLY exception were the Posiden’s which also performed very well but cost was a factor with them.

i have seen 4 freeze up with these regs out of 3 divers 2 i had to air shares with them and one that i just got on the boat they are good regs in warmer water 38 deg most of these were new regs mabe 6 months old as for the sherwood blizards are great regs just dated they a good work horse or rental but there are much more advanced regs that breath alot better for the same money ie. atomic z2 , dive rite rg2500 ice ,

The GS2000 is a sealed 1st stage just like the Sherwood, only difference is the Genesis is a D.A.D (Dry Air Demand) it bleeds air on accents unlike the Sherwood that bleeds all the time, I would recommend that you change the demand lever to the PK050T, that is a Teflon coated demand leaver., other that that the Genesis is an excellent cold water reg.
