Looks like he is old enough to have learned that modern Scubapro is, for the most part, overpriced gear that is little different from that produced by a number of other overpriced manufacturers with a few competitively priced exceptions.

Whatever you buy, it will most likely be replace or augmented in the not too distant future with gear you have learned much more about. For now, get the gear you need at best prices (shop around) and save the $$$ for diving.
 
My recommendation is to buy the DIR book or look online for DIR/Hog equipment configurations. These resources will tell you what you need for technical diving so you only need to buy once.
