I was kind of curious about who has taken part in a scavenger/treasure hunt put on by your LDS? What kind of prizes were given out and what kind of cost was involved in taking part?

I've done Divers Den Treasure hunt down on Cumberland about 4-5 times. They give out mulitiple computers, regs, spear guns, big big big bags, fins, split fins, mask snorkel combos. Then other stuff like $50.00 gift certificates. I have won a big ass bag I've used for at least 5 yrs. now. Also won a muffler from Midas once. I've won 15 air fills. You name it he gives it away but there is nothing cheezy he gives away.

It costs around $40-45 includes a prize that you are guaranteed to get your money back on and a serious spread that you can pig out on.

well i feel like i was taken then. My wife and I paid $75 for the two of us to participate in the scavenger hunt put on this weekend by The Scuba Shack. Don't get me wrong, we had fun. But it was $25 a person for the hunt, $10 each for entrance into Blue Springs, and it cost $5 to rent her a weight belt. They provided lunch (hamburgers, hotdogs, and such) and the grand prize was a Scuba Pro Mk16/G250. I did also see them give away a medium size bag. The other prize winners recieved a black bag. In mine was a hat, a visor, and dive log. My wifes contained a 4" DAN frisbee, a thin neoprene can holder (for beer and what not), and a luggage strap. Personally I think they should have give people things like vouchers for 25-50% off classes or $25 gift certificates, things like that. Atleast we would have felt like we got something for our money and would be likely to do it again.

Maybe next year we will have to do the one put on by Divers Den.

BTW, where is Divers Den?

Divers Den is right on Highway 27 in the south part of Somerset, Ky. right on Cumberland.

I did a treasure hunt at Mermet Springs a while back... It was around $35...

Free lunch... Free T shirt... Bunch of prizes.... Don't know what the prizes were though... Didn't really care...

It was to help out a orginization... Habitat for Humanity if I remember right... That's all I cared about...

I didn't even dive to get a prize... I was working with a class... I even bought my own lunch cause I left my ticket in my truck...

I got to meet alot of people. And dive with friends.. And help out some people I'll never meet...

Prizes I don't need.. If I want a toy. I'll buy it...

I also don't do treasure hunts to make a person money.. Only to donate to a cause...

I donate to plenty of childrens charitys and hospitals for my personal reasons. P L E N T Y.

I go to treasure hunts to have fun with good people and win prizes too.

Well I did have some fun and it would have made me feel better if it were charity. I look forward the annual underwater dart tournament for charity that another local shop has, at least I think it is for charity. The top prize for that one has been a Mares Ti Planet...not a bad deal at all.

The first weekend of August every year cerulean springs has a treasure hunt for charity.

Thank You CincyBengalsFan for the kind words about the Divers Den Treasure Hunt. When I got involved in Scuba Diving 16 years ago I was lucky enough to win the Grand Prize, a new BCD. Thinking I was on a roll, I quickly signed up for another Dive Centers Hunt only to be awarded with a $5.00 kids snorkel as my one and only prize. I know now that the important thing was to have fun and meet new dive buddies and not necessarily go for just the big winnings. Hey, what can I say I'm just human and I needed some dive gear in the worst way. I walked away really disappointed in the cheap prizes that dive shop gave away. I remember that feeling as I put on my Annual Treasure Hunt, and I make it really worth the trip down.

Last weeks Divers Den Treasure Hunt gave away over $6,000.00 in prizes. First, everyone got a free paded mask bag, free Treasure Hunt T-Shirt, and free Treasure Hunt decals for just being in the Hunt. Total free prizes came to around $35.00. Our Grand Prize was a Blackbeards 7 day live a board in the Bahamas, also an Ocean Reef full face dive mask, also a Dacor BCD, also an underwater communication system. Our normal prizes were Tusa split fins, u/w spear gun, full wetsuit, gear bag on wheels, jumpsuits, dive masks, etc. No prizes are allowed to be worth less then $25.00. EVERY diver is allowed two flags off the bottom therefor getting at least two prizes. However, if you are lucky enough to find either flag #1 or #100 these are bonus flags worth double drawings. Oh yea, there is also a power rangers necklace out there worth another free drawing in addition to your automatic two drawings. Look on the bottom for the gold coins that are worth additional $20.00 in free airfills. Collect the most PREVIOUS years flags off the bottom and the team with the most old flags both win an additional prize. At the end of the night we then have a drawing for the diver that receives FREE airfills for the entire upcoming dive season. So everyone gets at least two prizes and up to 7 prizes. Again, all prizes must be worth at least $25.00 each.

Local sponsors include free lodging at the local resorts, $50.00 savings bonds, steak dinners, choice of car or marine Interstate batteries, etc.

The grilled food consists of cheesburgers, polish sausages, hot dogs, Sonny's baked beans and coleslaw, and alote of home cooked potato salad, and home dishes. We finish it off with ice cold watermelon and sheet cake.

Cost for the Treasure Hunt and cookout is $45.00 and we gurantee you'l get all of it back in prizes or we give you your money back.
:)

There are no losers or disappointed divers at our Treasure Hunts. Join us next year and see why.

This years Treasure Hunt pictures are already posted on the wall in Divers Den. Come see what you've been missing.
