Scubaboard should be split into three seperate boards:

Scubaboard A-- for the BP/wing wearing, DIR forever, JetFins rule paddle fin frog kickers who use a V planner and everything secured with bungee and cave line and who like each thread properly catagorized.

Scubaboard B-- for the poodle jacket wearing thermoplastic split fin flutter kickers with computers and wireles transmitters and everything on a retractor and who like to start multiple threads about which gizmo I should get in the wrong forums.

Scubaboard C -- for normal people ;).

N

But wouldn't you feel lonely in Scubaboard C?

Heh. Good point.
I started with Cressi Frog fins. They are...borderline for frog kicking. They are a bit stiffer than most fins out there but they're definitely not Jets.
During a dive a few months ago a friend and I switched fins (mid dive) so he could try out my Jets. I used his Mares Volo fins (I think?) while he tried mine. They were utterly useless, especially for frog kicking. They bent in the middle of the fin during the kick, so they produced no thrust.

Splits are fine for people who want to silt up the bottom and who have no kicking technique. I see them as a crutch.

I have retyped my response to your arrogance 3 times now (I am not going to lower myself to your level). I will just say that its divers like you who give us all a bad name.

I am sure you are a diving god.

Dave

I have tried the Atomic splits, and just about all others.(splitFins that is)
I personally chose the Black Xpert Zoom fins, by Tusa. I think they are a decently stiff fin, not the most stiff, and not the softest, a good medium.
Just my .02

Oh BTW, I dont silt up the bottom , nor am I just a Flutter kicker.:)

let me just tell little mr sparticlebrane something.

Don't get too upset with Spart...He just has molecule flare-ups from time to time:)

Ignore Rawls. He's moving to Carteret County...the only reason I'd want to do that is if I lived in Pamlico County... :D :eyebrow:

Sorry Rawls, I couldn't resist. :rofl3: I'd actually love to live closer to the coast...

:rofl3: I actually lived in Pamlico County once when I worked with a bank...It was almost as bad as Wake County:D Didn't stay there long...nor with the bank....

You speak of "normal" as though it existed ! :)

I asked my wife just the other day if she remembered that strange sparkling cloud we flew through on our way home in 1982 to Houston from Las Cruces. We were in the Cardinal 177. You know, since then things have not been normal, it is as if we crossed over into some increasingly divergent timeline and all of you are some sort of Bizzaro World alternate reality and back on the "normal" timeline my alternate self is doing fine in a normal world. Could be, maybe?

In regards to jet fins. Times may have changed, but I believe the water has remained the same.
Jet fins are great, I prefer them. My wife used to own a pair of the Atomic split fins, I had may opportunities to objectively compare them with the jet fins. I wanted to like the Split fins, at first the idea seemed like a good one, but they just don't 'catch' enough water.

Think about it...if you are just swimming laps in a pool, do you swim with your fingers 'split' apart and spread wide, or do you keep your fingers together with your hand cupped, to 'catch' more water?

Times have changed, but water hasn't.....more grab= more go.

The Atomic split fins were dumped on ebay for a pair of Poseidon Forza fins, I've tried these and like them. I wasn't going to get rid of my jets and replace them with anything else, but if i weren't using jets, I'd get a pair of fins like the Poseidon Forza fins or the Mares Quattro Excel. Or a similar design of fin, there are other manufacturers out there of these types of fins, I doubt there is a significant difference between them. But the stiff fin with flexible rubber inserts molded into the fin style seems to work well.

If split fins were really effective, you'd see other things designed with a split down the middle and made more flexible.
I don't see canoe and kayak paddles out there that have a very flexible blade with a big split down the middle.
For the water I've been canoeing, kayaking and diving in, a blade with no split in it works best.....but the water may be different where you play.:D;)

Get some jet fins, and if you don't like the antiquated look of them, or they are too stiff and heavy for your liking. Get some Mares Quattro Excels or something of a similar design.
Usually the biggest advocates of split fins, are the people trying to sell you a pair.

Take care.

Marine mammal fins, whales, dolphins, seals, sea lions, fast moving pelagic fish like tuna, etc, all have "split fins". Ducks and frogs are fine with their paddle style. Mother Nature had it figured out way before this never ending debate. The same lift that allows a 777 to go airborne is the same principle that the split fins use.
