Another aspect that leads me to believe hypoxia is at the root of this, is that the first thing that goes is conscious reasoning etc. That makes doing an ascent that would be required and having presence of mind to close DSV etc problematic. Might also lead to someone giving an OK when he isn't.

Seen enough guys in a chamber going loopy (hell, been that guy) to find it credible.

On a side note: Capt Dan Dawson was not on the boat when the incident happened. Again; HE WAS NOT ON THE BOAT WHEN THIS HAPPENED. That's a fact. Obviously he can't give a first hand account simply because he wasn't there. However, and this is the kind of stand up guy Dan is, he committed boats, crew and plenty of resources to the search. In fact, he was on the Monroe County Fire Department's team, operating off of one of his boats, that found and recovered the body. He didn't run away from this mess. Rather, he stepped in and cleaned it up. That's character. That's integrity. That's Dan.

So who was Captaining the boat? Have they made a statement?

I don't know and don't care, but they were merely the water taxi here. They crewed the boat like they were asked to.

Well, they are also a witness, Pete. I'm not suggesting whatsoever that they are to blame here.... What I am suggesting is they may have answers to some of the questions we have. You of all people are always speaking out about seeking the truth.

The captain/crew may have zero experience with the level of diving that was taking place, but they still have 2 ears and 2 eyes. If there was a conversation about low o2 bottles and proceeding with the dive anyway that surely would help fill in some of our theories as to what happened.

regardless of what caused the accident to occur, once the two divers hit the surface the boat has a duty of care. The ability, training, drills, SOP and all the actions of the crew will be examined and investigated. The crew, being licensed have a duty to cooperate with the Coast Guard investigation and could be depending on the outcome of that investigation sanctioned if they weren't properly prepared to effect rescue, or even if they do not cooperate fully with the investigation. If the Coast Guard investigation finds fault, that will be evidence in any civil actions that may occur with the boat/crew as party.

Sounds like they have as good a reason as anyone involved for keeping quiet. Which is, of course, why the rest of us are always left to speculation.
