Right! 1cf bigger than your girly tanks!!

And we don't know, maybe Merry-D has read the fill pressure on them.....

No Chief, our girly tanks at fright at 100 cf, guaranteed as long as our compressors are running, which are running fine for the last month, and we now have a complete backup.

Whoops, my bad. For some reason I thought you had 90 steels for chicks.

....., so it shouldn't be a big deal for anyone.

CvChief, many thanks for the update. I also have never heard of someone jump up and down on a dive boat screaming " I have too much gas ! " {well maybe after a bean breakfast buritto}

But if the whole boat get's 100's it will probably be the DM's that scream. Many 6 pack boats cut a hole in the bench to hold the tank. Even roll control holders are pre-set for AL80's.

The AL80 is 7.25" diameter like the bench's hole size. The AL100 is an 8.0" bigger diameter tank and now won't fit in the bench hole. So the DM's will have fun figuring out where to put a dozen tanks that won't fit in the bench.

Thanks for the island update CvChief !!

At least some operators have some holes cut to fit the AL100. I've been diving several years on a December group trip with Dive with Martin, and always order the AL100. They always have those tanks set up at the back of the boat, and at least 3-4 holes per side big enough for the fat tanks. Now if EVERYONE ordered the AL100s, it might cause a problem. But if the AL100s start to get popular, I imagine the operators will adjust pretty quickly.

Well, they have been renting 100cf air tanks for a long time. I would guess most can handle it. The 100cf AL aren't new, just renting them with Nitrox is new.

Dear Chief,

At the expense of seeming self serving, I have to ask—how much do you pay for what turns out to be just 11 more CF of gas?

Dave

I sure hope all operators decide 100's are good and buy steelies.

You know the answer! It then costs about the same as Aldora. If we were not so happy where we dive now we would dive with you.

You can't simply assume that it is only 11 more CF of gas. Yes, I've never had an AL100 in Cozumel that was filled to its rated 3300 psi. But they are normally filled to 3150-3200 psi - at least when I got them through Dive with Martin, which I assume gets them through Meridiano. True, once I got an AL100 that was only filled to 2600, probably a slow leak in the valve that ran the pressure down before the second dive, but I bitched about paying the $5 per tank surcharge on that one, and Dive with Martin didn't argue at all, it credited me the surcharge. But over the years I've seen plenty of AL80s (which are really only AL79s, or even AL77s, truth be told) only filled to 2700 or 2800. So I MIGHT only be getting 11 extra CF of gas, but more often than not, I'm getting an extra 15-18 CF of gas. And I pay, or have paid, an extra $5 per tank for that. Not that I LIKE the extra charge, but for the extra piece of mind it gives me, for the relaxation of not worrying about "will I run out of air underwater, or force the group to come up early?", I'm willing to pay that price. I don't bitch about being forced to come up while I still have 900 psi in the tank, either. Sure, I'd much rather dive with HP Steel 120s, and not only for the extra air (I also like dropping about 6 lbs of lead, and not worrying about going positively bouyant on a safety stop). But if I'm coming down with a group of friends, I don't get to pick the operator, and not all operators are willing to go that route.

I always got them around 3000 more or less. Been a long while as I need the nitrox now.

And as I haven't got one yet, I don't know. Maybe I will insist on the same price as the nitrox 80?

And you don't have enough boats for EVERYONE to dive with aldora and if you did, the gov would come after you.

SOMEONE has to take one for the team and dive somewhere else, right?
