I just wish I could find someone to go diving with me with some of the untested charters on the NC Coast.

A few of us are going to Morehead next weekend (7/30 & 7/31) for offshore diving. Not sure if there are spots still available on the boat, but it's worth a shot. PM me if you're interested.

pm sent...

Y'all are the greatest!

Jason -thanks for the info, I sharpened & cleaned up the 2 maps from the link you gave me with Adobe Photoshop. They'll be helpful. Got your 2nd PM... you ARE the man.

sipidog -thanks for the grub 411. Mexican across the street from the hotel? BEWARE of the bubbles.

Rich -I'm checking out the link to gypsydivers after this post.

Babyduck -If we need to find anything, we'll hunt you down.

Linda -When you're in the Wilmington area send me a PM. A friend of ours private charters off the coast here. Shh. It's a secret.

Well, just over a week and with all the info everyone's provided thus far... should be a fun well planned trip. If anyone's out there this weekend would you mind popping up a post with water temps -surface/at depth ? And if anyone's out there next weekend, look us up. Carie's the one teaching the private OW lesson, & I'm the big guy who gets to haul all the gear on my shoulders (and sometimes the students). That's us in the profile pic.

Safe & Happy neutral buoyancy!

I'd be slightly sceptical about getting fills at the quarry. The temp is gonna be like bath water above 35ft. Still pretty cold below 50, cool at 40. the Vis is down around 10-15.

Visibility is not an issue.

Pretty much it right there. Drive up, pay, go get wet. They have a dive shop on site so you can get fills or rent gear if needed. Easy to get around in safely. I find it a great place to keep your skills sharp or just go have some fun blowing a few bubbles with some friends.

Jason

Cool sounds like a Saturday or Sunday dive coming up this weekend or next.

Why are you skeptical of getting fills from David? I get fills there all the time.

For quarry maps, drop by www.wreckmaniac.com. There are two maps there for Fantasy Lake. (I'm not sure, but I think Jason may have made them.)

If you can't find them, let me know, and I'll dig them up and post them here.

Safe ascents,
Grier

Well, tomorrow evening (after work till 8), we set sail on the BFG All Terrain TA's up I40 to Wake Forest. I've got a file-folder of hotel confirmation, maps, food info (Mex...only way to go), and of course the coordinates provided by Jim of all the U/W goodies. I actually reduced it to dive slate size & lamiated it. Nothing like an U/W roadmap.

Looking forward to getting wet, even if our first half day will be in the confined area. Carie's student is psyched, he crashed @ our house & was googly eyed as I helped him pick gear out in our shed. We're leavin' the BCD, tank, & reg rental for him up to Capital.

I'll be checkin' back in, post dive to report. Y'all are the greatest!

Good evening y'all.

We're headed to Fantasy Lake on 7/30 & 7/31 (from Wilmington). Does anyone have any info they could share, or possibly a link to an underwater guide to the quarry?

Plans thus far are to stay at the Sleep Inn in Wake Forest. Any good eats worth mentioning? Not sure if the ladies are more psyched about the dive or shopping  in Raleigh... but it should be a fun fresh water weekend none the less.

Hope you all have a great time up at Fantasy Lake.

Just a quick FYI - my wife and I were there last Sunday. We didn't arrive until after 12 noon and there had already been quite a few divers in the water (the guy at the gate said 75). Viz was mediocre (10-15 feet, maybe) and the thermocline was somewhere around 20 feet with a significant drop in temp (bath water on top - didn't have a thermometer, but probably high-60s low-70s below). It was just a descent / ascent and equipment check-out before out trip next week. So, we didn't see any of the sights - did a bit of compas navigation but wasn't too interested in getting near the bottom not knowing the area.

Have a good time!
