I quick and dirty sta can be made out of a c channel.

Yup, sure can.
I don't remember where, but I think I've seen a photo of a DIY STA on SB.

With an STA your tank will be more stable, but you'll need to either
a)drill holes in the BP with precision to match the STA
b)make the lower hole large / long enough to allow for errors.

Since the op already has made 2 inch slots for the webbing, option b) might be
plausible, if he decides to make an STA.

actually, for single tank diving, a STA isn't necessary. I've come up with two options on my wing. On the center panel of the wing, I've sewn two bits of cut-up hose that fall on either side of the center channel. when the BP is placed on the tank, the hoses prevent the tank from rolling to either side of the center channel. Pretty neat and stable, plus it keeps the valve within closer reach.
Another alternative is to put the bits of cut up hose on the cam bands, with the same effect. Haven't personnaly tried this since option 1 worked out so well for me - and hey, if it ain't broke, why fix it

Thanks for the tip Awap. As for me, I use el cheapo compact camera bags. Figured that the all nylon/plastic design would hold up to salt water more.

Hmmm... ammo pouches. I kinda like the sound of that :D
