I tried searching but...

I seem to remember someone saying that converting a din 2nd stage to yoke using
a temporary adaptor (convertor) on Carribean and other tropical rented Alum. 80s can be tricky because some tank valves "down there" are tapered or triangular in shape and some adaptor brands don't work as well as others.

Does anyone know from experience which brands will work with any rented tank anywhere?

Thanks.

I think it is really more the valve than the adapter. I have had trouble with both a DiveRite and a Scubapro adapter.

I just move on to the next tank in hopes of a better fit.

we took 2 diverite adapters to Yap last april and had no problems with any of their alum tanks

plus - the dive shop had alot of their own adapters in stock aslo so i didnt expect any problems

hope youre equally lucky

cheers

I have a Zeagle and a Poseidon adaptor, and so far haven't seen any problems with any yoke valves.

Thanks everyone. I'll be diving several Carribean sites/areas this Spring.
So, it sounds like just about any brand should work and it's the tank valve that's the problem...
I'll be diving "from" a cruise ship so I won't be able to contact or maybe even know which dive operators/boats I'll be diving ahead of time in order to see if they supply
adaptors. Anyone with experience in Cayman Is.s, Dominica, Aruba, etc. that's had repeated trouble with more than one tank onboard and found only one brand of adaptor to work for them-if they indeed brought or borrowed more than one?

Does anyone know which particular tank valves have this conical/triangular shape to them?

If the adapter doesn't fit then wouldn't a yoke 1st stage not fit either? The adapter I have for my DIN 1st stage (AL Legend, DiveRite adapter) simply turns the 1st stage into a temporary standard yoke 1st stage. If the tank valve has some strange shape, I would think that no ones regulator would work with it. Maybe I'm missing something.

I made the same reflection as Hoosier on that one. I own a poseidon and a scubapro adaptor and never had a problem in the Carrabean. I can't see why the din to yoke adaptor would not fit like the standard yoke?

I think what you heard of was more a matter of convertible valves. Several manufacturers are now making din valves with inserts so they can be used with either din or yoke regs, a few of these are so beefy that not all yokes will fit over them. Any purely yoke valve should be serviceable with any yoke, and if you're using a din to yoke adaptor and get one of the beefy valves, then get rid of both adaptors and dive din.

Never had any problem with my DIN adaptors (ScubaPro) when I travel. However, sometimes I just transfer all the hoses to a yoke first stage (same model Mk10) if I'm going to be traveling extensively rather than staying in one place. It reduces the weight I take with me.
