Just keep in mind DAN is secondary insurance.
The big marketing lie! It's what you hear, but read the ADDITIONAL EXCLUSIONS...!
9.Expenses to the extent that they are paid or payable under other valid and collectible group insurance or medical prepayment plan;
That just nullifies to the primary claim to me...!!

Still provides great coverage and I also like that it provides coverage for lost equipment which is great. Typical homeowners policies won't cover cameras or housings if dropped overboard or lost on a dive. Only if stolen. So that's useful.
Neither will DAN's dive insurance. There is some coverage for equipment lost or ruined in a dive accident, but not a klutz accident. :wink:

But I hear it can be cumbersome hashing out payments between DAN and your primary insurance. It'll all get paid but its more work. I currently have DAN but I'm looking at DiveAssure when my DAN comes up for renewal. It's a bit pricier, but its primary insurance and has several coverage options. Anybody know much about them?

Has anyone used DAN for a dive accident and had a bad experience with the paperwork? Or was it pretty easy? I don't mind spending a bit extra to avoid the hassle...

Just found a great thread about DAN vs DiveAssure. Please wait

New to the whole forum thing...forget to search first, then ask questions!
I posted on that one too: The primary claim is nullified by the exclusion! I think that it's probably great insurance, and good for DAN to have some competition - and their insurance is brokered out to actual insurance companies, but it bothers me that Dive Assure claims to be primary, then nullifies it.

Great info! Thanks! Will research some more...looks like I need a personal articles policy for my dive equipment because I am klutzy! Almost lost my camera when I let it go thinking I had it strapped to my arm. Thank God someone saw it happen and grabbed it! I do have DAN for now...feel pretty good about it. Better than without it!

I used to have a State Farm Personal Articles Policy. It was great, great rates, great service, paid well, etc. I juse used it too much - but if you can get it where you live, nothing better...!!

Invoice for my HBOT in Truk Oct 2008 was $3k for the Table 6 treatment, and a $500 Physician's fee (for only a telephone consult from the Chamber Tech in Truk to the Hyperbaric Specialist Doctor in Melbourne Australia!).

It took a year of back 'n forth email/snail mail correspondence between DAN & their Insurance Underwriters, Hyperbaric Health Australia and myself, before DAN finally cut me a check, which I then promplty wired the funds over to Hyperbaric Health.

The additional work-up on the way back in Honolulu for PE/DVT and another Table 6 HBOT at Kuakini Medical Center was covered immediately by my health insurance thru my regular job. . .
