The buoyancy properties for a HP100 and HP130 are the same for all practical purposes. The HP100 and HP130 are the same height. The HP130 is just larger in diameter than the HP100.

I have both tanks and use the exact same 30 lb wing and the same amount of hard weights whether I dive my HP100 or HP130. So, if you don't mind an extra 10 lbs of weight on the shore or boat, I would suggest going for a HP130 as you can never have too much gas on your back.

What kind of diving do you see yourself doing in 3 years? I originally switched from al80's to hp119's, knowing that they would eventually be a set of doubles... which they are. I love my double 119's. I can spend an hour at 100', no problem. Also, when I was diving them as singles, depending on the profile, sometimes I would do 2 dives on 1 tank. Just keep in mind that your needs may change if you decide to progress to more advanced or technical diving. BTW, I am 6'6" and have no trouble with trim using double 119's, drysuit and require no additional weight.

Just to give an update on my tank question and decision.

After considering all of the information in the various replies, I decided to go with the HP 100 steel tanks.

In addition, I was able to take advantage of a Christmas week sale at my LDS and combine it with my student discount to get a very reasonable price on two XS Scuba tanks (worked out to be approx $280.00 for each tank).

Just wanted to add my thanks for all of the advice.
