PS. In contrast, some south sea dive ops were refusing to accept DAN Europe insurance in 2003 for slow payment. They were glad to accept DAN North America.

DivePartner1:I'm not sure this is either surprising or such a big deal.
Any organization that acts globally is likely to run into vendor disputes somewhere where a vendor tries to hold organization's customers hostage for leverage. That seems to be what's going on here.
From everything I've read DAN is not denying coverage: they're arguing a provider who seems to be gouging. In doing so, their fighting for their policyholders.
The only lesson I take from this is to boycott the dive market where this clinic is operating. I take from this: Boycott Mexican Dive Operations.
pilot fish:Are you saying that Mex chambers charge more, charge when not necessary, or give chamber treatment when not indicated? I heard they have the most number of chamber treatments world wide. More divers than anyone else. most dived location?
caveseeker7:Maybe you can explain to me why the treatment of American residents is more expensive than the treatment of European residents?
detroit diver:This is old news. Instead of listing chambers that take DAN America insurance, they should list chambers that don't. That way, anyone going to those areas would be notified that they have to make alternate insurance arrangements.
ONESPEED:..............
If you are a DAN Insured Member treated at the SSS facilities in Nassau, Cabo or Cancun, you will be asked to pay for your treatment. Your next step will then be to send DAN copy of your bill. DAN will reimburse you within 30 days.....................

If you are injured, however, and call DAN, we guarantee we will get you to the closest appropriate facility in the quickest time. If this happens in Cancun, there is a pro-DAN chamber there already. If you are diving in the Bahamas, Mercy Hospital in Miami is a short flight away. The same goes for Cabo: Southern California is just a short hop.
