We're going to go to Edmonds . . . Tides aren't super (there'll be a walk) but that water clarity is too good to pass up. Plan is to meet a little before 11.

Doves three dives this monring on a rising tide. Air temp was a steady 53-54F. Water temp was 54F bottom/51F top. There was 15-20ft viz, with the first 30' an intermittent concrete to tiny Cross Moon jellies and Cat's eyes a plenty. Kind of strange not to be able to read your gauges without a minimum of a light cannon. Roped out cove was straightforward to follow. We went all over: the Box, the Airplane, the Ferris Wheel, the Tanker Car and several junk piles of I beams and pipes.

Weather was typical of Whititer - awful, windy, rainy and cool compounded by traffic to accommodate a cruise ship arriving in town. People are immediately bussed out to Anchorage and Seward. Tunnel traffic was heavy at 8:30a.

Saw the largest Giant White Dorid I've ever seen in my life with a massive swirled ribbon-like egg mass next to it. In the same area, there were tiny opalescent nudibranchs and large mating Sea Lemons (some clustered) on egg masses. Kelp were very large and creating lots hiding places for Coonstripe Dock shrimp all different sizes seemingly everywhere. Occasionally the lone Rock Sole, several fearless juvenile Lingcod, a giant Golfball Crab, Decorator crabs, Several kinds of Scorpionfish and several kinds of Gunnels.

Overall, the dives were good. My dive buddy Jim & I were the only people diving today.

Great to hear about something other than Cove 2!

I would like to see Alaska some time and do some diving...
Do you have any pics of your dives?

I didn't bring my camera today because it would have been pointless. Viz is at its worst now. I took the time to look down a 10" Sea Vase. Amazing, but a photo would have been dreadfully blurry. I have photos in my gallery, but I can't seem to look in my own gallery without some sort of password access. I imagine that has to do with the SB server problems lately. If that is wrong, please let me know.

Viz at the Office last night and today was craptacular (15-20'), but that didn't stop Laura and I from having a pair of great dives. Night dive was a blast, and Laura got some great video of the octo under the logs. Morning dive was a relaxing dink-around dive near the honeybear, but with all the classes out, the viz went to hell real fast.

Went snorkeling at Sequim State Park on the 3rd and 4th. First day viz about 5 to 8 foot. Spent 2 hrs looking around not much to see around the rocks north of the boat ramp incoming tide did not help matters. Next day went south of the boat ramp viz worse about 1 to 5 foot maybe. Saw the biggest Moonsnail I've ever seen. Oh well great place to camp.

Saturday Rosie's Ravine the vis was about 3-5' in the layer. Better below it about 15-20' vis. Ran into Dogfish Shark in the garbage. He sure got my attention in the muck.

Sunday I dove Palali Pt. Vis still bad 3' or so in layer but real good below. At least
25' below it at 50'. Once again ran into another Dogfish Shark in the crap. What is with all the Dogfish Sharks in Hood Canal? Last 4 dives in the Canel I have seen at least one Dogfish Shark, one dive 3 plus a 8' Six Gill shark. I keep running into them in around 30' or so in the muck. :11:

09/02 Smitty's Cove Whittier, Alaska - Weather was 54F with intermittent drizzle and rain. Water temp was 52F. 3 divers Changing tide compounded by boat traffic, a barge and a group of new divers made for exceptionally poor visibility (5-15' in the shallows). Toured around the the junk piles and to the new reef. Lots of Canary Rockfish, shrimp, massive moon jellies, lion's mane jellies and orange hermit crabs in Hairy triton shells. Cruise ship was in harbor compounding tunnel traffic.

09/03 Resurrection Bay Seward Alaska: Boulder City and a newly explored site I'm calling Little Boulder. 3 divers. Visibility was 75'+. Water temp was 54F was exceptionally calm and weather was perfectly sunny and upper 50sF. Boulder City - an almost sheer cliff where massive boulders have fallen into the water at depths of 45', 80' & deeper forming swim-throughs. Massive Ling Cods (solo male and a few females) awaited us at the back of the boulders.

Little Boulder was a new unexplored site with an incredible variety of brilliant orange sea squirts, Ascidians and hermit crabs everywhere. Krill clouds were amazing to swim into. At the swim through and Little Boulder the underside of the arch was covered in Yellow Zoanthids (cup corals) with Sharp nosed and decorator crabs in every little pocket. Alcoves against the wall each had a gigantic Painted Anemone in it. Again another cruise ship and lastt minute fisherman made Seward traffic busy.
