I'm taking my son for his first dive trip to Coz in Mar. I've got the dive op set up (Alison Dennis, scubawithalison.com) Now it is time to pick the hotel.

I would appreciate reports on which hotels you all have really liked in Coz. I'd like to hear both the expensive and the cheap so we can pick.

Thanks,

Rich

There are scads of places to stay on Coz, and this shotgun style approach may confuse rather than assist you. But, since you asked:

I can give you lots of cheap, some as low as $30, but they are in town, which means not on the water & gear schlepping. I don't recommend them unless you're on a forced budget. Within this class is a very good value called Hacienda San Miguel http://www.haciendasanmiguel.com/. Large, clean fully serviceable digs at a fair price. Staff is super, and outstanding landscaping/gardens. It's about 4 blocks from the plaza & 1/2 block from the water, although not really swimmable. Just go to one of the nearer major hotels, like PLG, and use their pools, water access. Nice beaches are farther south.

More expensive, but newer & on the water with great staff attitude is Casa Mexicana http://www.casamexicanacozumel.com/index2.htm.

Hope this gets you started.
