I've been considering rebuilding our regs myself instead of taking them in to our LDS for annual service, and have been doing a lot of research here. I want to be able to do it not so much to save money, but to learn all I can about the regs we dive, and to be able to adjust or repair them in the field, if necessary. But, I've run into a bit of an uh-oh.

I have been under the impression that I owned two sets of Aqua Lung Conshelf XIVs in perfect condition. We been diving them for a couple of years, and they have performed flawlessly under all sort of conditions. Turns out, they aren't Conshelf XIV, but are Conshelf SE2 regulators. That's where my "uh-oh" comes in.

All the information I've been searching and downloading is for the Conshelf XIV. I've been able to find rebuild manuals and all sorts of rebuild information. But it doesn't help much if I have Conshelf SE2s.

My question is this: Is there a substantial difference in the two regs? Is the SE a "plastic" version of the XIV? I can't seem to find the same information on the SE2s as I have found for the XIVs. The parts lists for both look pretty similar.

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

I think the first stage are the same except that they vary in the number of ports that they have. As for the second stage, the XIV is metal.

If it looks like a Conshelf 14, it basically is. The main difference between the Conshelf 12, 14, SE2, etc is in the number and sizes of ports.

Second stage kits for the various metal and plastic Conshelf variants differ in terms of a few minor o-ring differences but the seats are the same.
