Sitting here contemplating the recent events that have happened has caused me to put this down.

It all started out with the invention of the Email system, yes you got it. Everybody thinks you sit around your computer all day and do nothing but monitor your email account. Being a recruiter (now ex-recruiter, I quit) that is what the command think you do unfortunately, I would be out pounding the streets talking to people (oh what fun). But alas, I moved to a Reserve Unit (ACRC) and was working there, my other email account is still active but no way of getting into it (Jokes on them hahahaaha). I get a phone call from the Company Commander, this occurs around 1100 hrs telling me that I needed to call the BN XO. So bein a good trooper I call him, he begins to tell me that I should have been on the road escorting some unfortunate person who has gotten into trouble and was to out process at Ft. Knox the next day(lucky him he gets to get out). I listen intently, then I interject that maybe if I was informed of such duty then that is where I would be instead of being at the Reserve Unit performing my dull duties. Wow an 8 hour drive from Cleveland to Kentucky you just got to love it(not to mention I had to drive to Toledo to pick him up), no time to pack or make hotel reservations :11: . With all this being said he asked me; "Is this the first time of you hearing about this?". Hmmmm what do you think, being a senior NCO certain things you can get away with. "Gee sir, let me think.........ummmmmm yes, I really don't appreciate the lack of correspondence from your office to me on this matter and by the way thanks for ruining the next two days of my week". All boils down to the Company Commander is the culprit (yet another reason, I would not follow this guy into battle :m16: and if I had to, it would be from a very long distance) .

Scenario number 2:
Yesterday evening, I get the preverbial phone call......................"you have a Physical Training Test tomorrow at 0700 at the Naval Reserve Unit". One would think that in this day in age that if somebody in all their glory and brightest moment would be putting this information out way ahead of time (something about being prepared when you need to be comes to mind). By no means am I whining about the PT Test :sprite10: , I can pass one(did pass it) on any given day (I don't have a see food diet=see food and eat it :eyebrow: ). Now, I sit at my desk waiting for the phone to ring yet again for that last minute tasking sending out somewhere to do what, one will never know.

I feel your pain my friend. I have been in those same shoes on many occasions and it is one of the main reasons I am no longer in those highly polished and lustered boots. I now sit in my commando style plush gov't civilian attired chair, with the knowledge that I will be going home and swimming in my wonderful pool and drinking a lush fruity drink in just a few hours with no other worries than gosh I hope it doesn't rain on me as I ride my motorcycle home.

I too quit being a recruiter because of the just plain load of crap it was. I will drink one and think of you tonight Joe.

Good Luck. By the way. Battalion s-3 called you need to go in and get your security clearance updated

Wouldn't that be the S2 shop??? Ummm I was sitting here thinking and you are right it does need to be updated (yet another ooops we didn't tell you till the last minute :blahblah: ). Going back to Bragg cannot happen soon enough. (praying quietly to myself) God, if you can hear me; I promise to be good from now on. I think I have learned my lesson and paid my pennance for my past sins. Can I now leave purgatory and go back to the good life of being a paratrooper and jump from planes again? (C'mon St. Michael your suppossed to be on my side, help me out here)

St michael is only by your side when you are in the air my friend, the rest of the time your pretty much on your own. :D You'll always have my shoulder to cry on though. :p

s2...s3 I'm a civvie, what do I know.

I feel your pain. I was a swim instructor in the Marines, and was asked about 2 months in advance if I could fly to Washington state to do a swim qual for a reserve unit up there. I said no problem just give me a couple days notice. 2 months go by and out of the blue the phone rings at my civilan job. "Hey are you going to pick up your orders". I say "orders for what" they say "your supposed to be on a plane for Washington in 1/2 an hour". well thanks for informing me. I ended up flying out on a later flight with the clothes on my back. Missed my connecting flight in seattle, ended up sleeping in the airport until the first flight out the next morning, and arrived at the reserve unit with out a pair of shorts to swim in. Needless to say the wife wasn't to happy when I called her from the airport and told her what was going on.

gotta love the military

Are you sure you aren't in the NAVY... that sounds like a normal NAVY day to me...

The Coast Guard wasn't immune to that kind of problem. I got in trouble for not reporting to my "new" reserve unit that I was never issued orders to and never advised of a change.

This was at about my 22 year mark and the XO told me that my civilian employment was interfering with my Coast Guard career. He told me that I needed to make a choice of which was more important and that there was a good chance I would be passed over for promotion if I didn't say the right thing. All I could say was "See Ya'", went down to the Admin office and put in my letter for retirement. I think I said the right thing.

I have only been back on a CG base once when they were having a sale at the exchange... Go to the army base alot because they have a really good dive shop :)
