Does the ferry still operate during a Norte? We may shuttle over to Tulum or something if we get blown out. Or play Texas hold ‘em in the bottom of Aldora’s pool all day!

Yes the Ferries run during most nortes and this will actually be mild one. Forget Tuesday for diving but the other days may be OK. BTW when nortes blow the Ferries are called the Vomit Comet so a cenote dive is possible but not for those prone to sea sickness.

Lord knows, I wish it were not so but it will be a norte. The best we can hope for is that it is not too strong! If I had to guess, Monday AM is fine but Tuesday will be a blow out, the rest of the week will depend on the mood of the Harbor Master

This morning the thermometer on my deck read 18 degrees F, which is unusually cold for Austin, and it was snowing for a bit last night. It's supposed to stay below freezing until Wednesday noon, which is a cold snap of unusual duration for Austin. This is a very large cold air mass; most of the US is in the deep freeze. The good news for you guys is that the north wind was never all that strong.

Norte or not, I wish I were there. Heavy sigh.

You can live vicariously through me, Gord!

Drinking a Pacifico con limon on the Aldora back yard right now, listening to the waves lap at the shore. Two dives today were majestic. Columbia followed by San Francisco. 1:12 bottom time for both. Mild current. We were the 1st boat to the site, so very peaceful. Saw a few splendid toadfish, stingrays, spotted eagle rays, grouper, etc. etc. etc.

I guess I could post some pics, but that feels like it'd be rubbing it in.....

This is a perfect time to dive the cenotes on the mainland for the day.

Check with your dive shop for a recommendation.

Or take early ferry to playa, take tricycle to collectivo, take collectivo to dos ojos, use onsite dive shop, do two dives, return, simple as that.

Bring your own gear, lights, lunch, etc.

This morning it was 26 deg F in New Braunfels with light sleet. So we went diving in the Comal! It's a club tradition. I think we earned our polar bear plunge this year. The water was 68, cooler than the normal 71, but not a problem. Getting out was brutal! I was using full foot fins so walking in crocs from park to entry and then from exit to condo.

-30 C (actual) around my area today. 2 of the local R/C clubs held "First Flight of the New Year" events. A tougher bunch than I am. That's colder than usual & we'll be happy to see "average" return.

Positive thinking, by the boat traffic in front on Fiesta Americana it appears the port is open:bounce:
