I have blue tanks. I say get whatever color tanks you like. Who cares what some shmuck says.

I agree that shot blast or brushed aluminum tanks look better longer than any painted tank finish. Paint chips and wears after a time and the finish never looks as nice as the day you bought it. I've switched to shot blast on all my aluminum tanks.

I've read that stickers don't stick well to shot blast. Anyone observed that? I know they stick well to brushed aluminum and paint... to the chips, at least... :D

clown trigger:
I was looking at a candy red Al80 tank with my girl at the lds and some fool under his breath to a friend says, "I thought only f@g$ would buy one of those". I asked him to repeat himself, he just turned red and walked away.

I guess only a f@g would know. I like the bright neon colors. I cover them with the mesh covering and a boot. My AL80 tanks are 3 years old and look like new. But the steel tanks work better for me.

My first tanks were yellow and pink, then I got a faber white. Hated how much wear and tear they were going through and got the galvanized steel tanks. But I love the metal flake cyls.

Hubby wore my pink tank for ages and nobody said a word. Who's going to mess with a guy 6'3" and 250# ? Only an idiot :)

aint that the truth!

Yea I could see myself driving a candy apple red camero one day...

don't listen to idiots...that's the same type of person who is so preocupied with what he or anyone else is using for gear...that they he never takes the time to learn how use it properly....so should anybody really pay him any attention?

Yup, I agree with what everyone here has said. Thus my redundant post. :)

1) If you like colored tanks, get them. Nothing wrong with them, and they really help your tanks stand out in a crowd. There is a guy in a local shop here that air brushes beautiful scenes on tanks.

2) Your pretty colored or painted tanks, however, WILL take a beating and not be pretty for long, without both extreme care and a LOT of luck. I HATE the look of scratched, beat up paint, so I prefer the dull grey of hot dipped galvanized steel for my tanks. If there was a way to ensure the tanks wouldn't get all scratched up, however, I'd have glow-in-the-dark neon tanks on my back in no time flat, purely for visibility purposes. (and because I like glow-in-the-dark neon.)

I don't know if you have seen these "suits" for your tank, just as a different option - check out http://my1.bizshop.com.au/diveitch/ - I have just bought one with my own print and it looks fantastic, colourful and original.

This looks like a great idea, as well as long lasting.

I have used the scuba hides but you take them off yearly when getting the tanks tested, but this looks like it can last a long time.

Have you had any problems with it, eg fitting it to your tanks?

Does it just go straight on? No mesh over the top?

Thanks.

Just to beat that horse further into the ground...

Sound's like Tiny has a problem with Tank Envy. Get whatever color you like. IMOHBBO the primary key in buying a tank is function/purpose. I've gone both ways--buying fresh, clean, polished black AL80s. For years I pampered them, washing, waxing, detailing them until they were showroom new again. If there was a Tank Spa in town, I'd've been there. There's nothing like a freshly Armor-alled tank valve to get the juices flowing.

But then I came across some used ones that were chipped and worn. They were a heck of a lot easier to care for. Besides, the buffer kept chipping the paint further. So after several hundred dives, I gave up and now they're fortunate to even get a good hosing after ever few dives.

Later I came to my senses and bought a couple steel 120s and haven't looked back.

But pink? One has to draw the line somewhere. While I'm quite comfortable in my own masculinity, even if I won a Mary Kay contest and was, recognized for Oustanding Regional Director of the Year (fingers crossed, hope, hope) and was given a pair of pink tanks, I just don't think I'd wear them....I mean use them.

I never thought of that, a single pink 80 is a bit girlie, though I like pink shirts, but a set of pink doubles with a nice isolation manifold and a jet black wing ... now that has potential!
