Ive had them all , almost one of every color . Now i prefure galvinized or shot finish.

I prefer blue or yellow and I prefer my buddy uses yellow. Its a lot easier to see in low light.

I feel sorry for people who have to judge others to feel their own self worth. If you like the red tanks by all means go with the red. I personally have four tanks and they are all different colors. The brushed aluminum one is holding up better than the others though.

Oh man! I have a blue tank. Should I be listening to Liza Minnelli & Boy George? That will be quite a shock to my wife and 4 kids.

What do some of you folks think about color tanks? And yes I am going to buy one maybe even two - one red and one blue

Hey now, back off the copycat stuff  I have a red tank and a bright royal blue tank and have been known to drool lustily over the purple ones. It's a lot easier to spot my tank in the crowd of rental tanks on a boat :D
Ber :lilbunny:

Painted tanks are fine, just drag them behind a truck on a gravel road a ways and they'll clean right up.

The only thing wrong with brushed or blasted aluminum tanks is the last word in the description. Given a choice dive galvanized steel. Better buoyancy for most of us and lower cost of ownership overall.

Aluminums tend to be *** light when empty, require most to carry more lead to keep you down when at the end of the dive, and are a maintenance headache forever. Anyone temember the flap about 6351 aluminum tanks and the refusal fo many shops to fill any Al tank over 15 years old?

A properly maintained steel tank can be used for generations, at least 3 of them from personal experience.

As you can tell by my avatar pic, I've got colored tanks.

Do I prefer colored tanks? No..... If not, then why do I have them? Because I got them for a STEAL of a DEAL.

If I could pick up a tank in hydro and visual for $10 bucks and it was PINK, then I would buy it. I'd prob dive it also. Yeah you'd get smartass jokes, but just tell them you only paid $10 bucks for the tank and ask if they would like to buy it, most would say yes. If you don't like the color, you can always strip the tanks. (see my "Recent Stripper Pics" thread).

Now as for your candy red tank you were interested in, should you get it? sure... should you pay more for it? I'd say no. As you dive the tank and pick it up and set it down, it's going to chip the paint some. Putting it in and out of car trunks, boat racks, fill tnaks, etc it will get scratched. People just don't "baby" tanks to keep from scratching them. So chances are a scratch on your fancy paint job will be worse than on a normal paint job. (in your mind that is)...

Now... the advantages of some color tanks.
1.) You can tell easier who other folks are on your dive if diving in a group and one of your buddies has a color tank.
2.) Bright yellow or bright green are more visable at distances than a diver wearing a black wetsuit and black BC. Someone was diving one of my tanks in the bottom of the quarry at 45' and you couldn't see them. But you could see the tank from the surface looking straight down.
3.) It's different.

I have Blue Doubles, white doubles, a grey single, and 2 neon green singles. Oh, don't forget the yellow pony bottle and the galvanized stage bottle......................

It's a COLOR for crying out loud! Get what you want and the heck with what other people think.

Go figure. Everyone's saying they don't like paint on aluminum because it chips and wears out. That's one of the things I like about it. Nothing makes you feel like a newbie more than perfectly new-looking gear. :D
