Cold water regulator question

This confuses me and seems to defy the design of the cold water aspect of the Aqualung Supreme model.
Quite so, unless they were having a problem with the second stage icing up (something I've never heard of, that's only a 2 to 5 atm drop), or the whole thing's just advert umph.

I'm really looking for a regulator that will mostly be used waters above 50F, but may occassionally be used in waters in the 40s.

Note that if this is in salt water, almost any good regulator will do, you don't need a "cold water" regulator.
 
Simple answer is that salt water freezes a little slower than fresh water. In those deep, dark, cold quarries reg freeze-up seems almost a certainty.

From what I've read, there is no difference between the two regulators. The Maximus has a swivel at the end of the hose, so you can wear your second stage below the arm I guess, and an adjustable knob for opening pressure. Otherwise, they are identical.

Spectrum apparently prefers the blizzard for simplicity sake, but does not think that the maximus has any advantage over the blizzard in term of cold weather tolerance.

Actually, Looking at the diagrams for the second stages, they are quite different. The adjustable second stage and swivel uses a totally different demand valve housing, volcano orifice, and several other parts. All this parts look like metal parts which could potentially improve heat transfer. Can't tell for sure what difference would it make, but they are different second stage demand valves. They do share the same housing, diaphragm, etc.
 
I dive sherwood blizzards and love them. Down to 37° no problem....
