Honestly, Catalina is a very special place and right in our backyard. It has been part of my life since I can remember and there is something so special about looking across the channel from the coast and seeing its wonderful silhouette.
Diving, fishing, dinning, romance...whatever your pleasure.
My favorite jaunt was my friend Andrew's wedding in which we marched across Avalon with a bagpipe player all the way to the Casino.
Get Wet!

interesting

A bunch of rich middle-aged businessmen taking their barely-legal girlfriends to the island so they can get laid is what passes for romance these days?!?

What triggered this post? Hardly typical of the visitors I see on our streets. Perhaps you are talking about some of the yachters, but I hardly think this characterizes the average visitor to the island. Heck, if they were really "rich middle-aged businessmen" they'd be flying the girls off to Tahiti.

I think I saw that procession.

Hey now, we're the yachters - and we're definitely not "rich middle aged man w/ barely legal girlfriend". Okay, well, maybe the middle-aged part... :crafty:

Wasn't that back in the day when it was Hollywood's playground?

Rainer such a gentleman to be concerned for the young women ;)

I am amazed at the number of divers I meet who say "I only dive warm water" Are you kidding me? We have an amazing underwater paradise here.

The last time I was there I saw several couples that fit this description. And there was also a couple of 60-ish guys with what appeared to be mail-order young Asian brides. I don't really think this is indicitive of the Catalina couples at-large...I just thought it sounded funny.

I think Catalina is a great place to dive, and to go sailing, hiking and mountain biking. If those things are romance-enhancing activities, then its a really good island for romance (but like Dr Bill points out, better bring your own...the locals are all taken, and there is a waitlist). I think a really romantic island has to have all the above, AND warm water, and natural beaches. Sorry, I love Catalina and I visit as often as I can, but it ain't warm, and there no beaches worth mentioning.

Notice I said SOME yachters, LeeAnne... certainly not all. Most bring their wives or husbands. At least that's what they told me!

Whew... I thought you saw me with one of those Asian ladies Catherine accused me of having "exploits" with!

Certainly there are some visiting "couples" who fit your description, but most of what I see are attached couples. Lots of weddings here, too. Maybe some day I'll partake of that experience.
