Carry On Luggage and Manila Airport

What is the deal with carry on luggage and going through Manila airport?
Somebody told me they take your carry on to check, and return it to you at a later time. Can anybody clarify this? I keep my most important and valuble items in my carry on and don't like it out of my control.

I didn't have any issues with my carry on. They will check it though.

Hmmmm..... condom cath to a leg bag. Just make sure the bag is clamped and make sure not to bump your leg into things. Wouldn't want to have an accidental release in the middle of the terminal .

Honestly though, the check is no big deal. Just takes a lot of time.
