I’m off to Truk soon and will have very full pockets on my journey through Asia, as I strongly suspect what I need to take as carry-on will exceed the 7kg quite comfortably.

I have been to Truk twice and never ever needed to carry more than 20kg in my checked bag. The carry-on was less than 2kg.
