Don't you mean you''ll have to check your wifes calender?

Ouch. :)
Actually, she's going back to school, so I'll have saturdays free until some time in the fall... except where *I* have plans.

Psyched. Something else to do on Cape now other than Hathaway, Garbage and Corporation beach!

Looking at boat pic, looks like will be tricky getting back on with doubles! Will we need fully inflate wings and ditch our tanks to be hoisted up?

I was wondering the same thing (doubles OR singles). How do you get back onto the boat? There's no swim platform with those two huge motors sitting there. I'm sure this is obvious, but I'm just not seeing it.

I traded e-mails with Mike and he assures me doubles aren't a problem. They have had several divers with doubles come up the armstrong ladder with no difficulties. I can see it being cramped with 6 divers and DM with doubles. Would definately have to be a smaller group.

I called him this afternoon on my way into class and he told me that doubles aren't a problem. He did say that they wouldn't be able to handle 6 guys bringing 2 sets of doubles, as they just don't have the room on a 25 foot boat. (It sounds like he has room for 18 tanks in any configuration, single or double.) That is certainly understandable, it's not CAD1, it's a 25 foot boat. I didn't ask about a ladder. I did ask about staying within NDL's and he said that all of the dive's he is planning are above 130 feet. Also, you will probably have rec divers in 80's on most trips, so courtesy vis a vis time will enter into things. He did say that they have some "house" safety requirements, such as requiring 100 cf of air plus redundency (pony, etc) on the deeper, outside dives; SMB's; whistles, etc. Not unreasonable requests, especially if you've ever been fishing off CHatham on a gorgeous July day and within moments you find yourself in fog so thick you can't see the bow of your 18 footer.

I've always enjoyed the times I've talked with Mike, he seems like an enthusiastic businessman who likes what he does. I've made some purchases from him and found him to be fair to deal with. I'll certainly give his operation a couple of tries this season. Hey, what have we got to loose, he's going to wrecks that no-one else is going to. (At least on a commercial basis.)

I'm going to ask Alice about the 5th, it might be a bit too early for her. (She's a lot smarter than I am and looks at me in total disbelief every time I suggest stuff like ice diving or spending New Years Eve in Tuckermans Ravine, or 5 day ski tours thru the Pemi, etc.. Of course, once she gets over the shock of the idea, she recognizes a good time when she hears it.)

I can't think of anyone I know who should be running a dive shop more than Mike Walls. I worked with Mike at East Coast and know how much enthusiasm he had for getting back down to the Cape with his own shop. In the years he's been there, his excitement hasn't even remotely waned, and that's a big reason why it's one of the best-run dive shops you're likely to ever step into. Anywhere.

On a slightly separate note, I think Mike made the right choice getting a Parker. They're the best-kept secret in diving and I still don't understand why all charter boats aren't Parkers. I dove off of a smaller one than the Dive Locker's last summer with 4 guys and I was astonished at how much extra room we had.

Well, if anyone decides to put a few NELD people together and go out on one of Mike's charters, keep me in mind. I'd love to give a few of the Cape wrecks a try. The pictures from lobster diving The Race look great, too.

Mike's great. I just emailed him asking him for some prices and what he had in stock for HP steel tanks. I got a response within an hour. Good prices too. He still has a great passion for diving and really knows a lot. With this warm weather I can't wait to start diving. I'm a newbie so I might be begging for a buddy in the future.

Ok Matt, I figure I owe you the courtesy of fessing up.

So I propose to Alice, "Hey you know that dive show down in High Annus? Well they bought a 25 foot Parker over the winteer and they're running charters to a bunch of wrecks on the outside. And they're starting off the season on the Port Hunter, this wreck on teh shoals between Falmouth and the Vineyard. Yada Yada Yada"

And I go on and on telling her how cool it will be, and what I know about the wreck and how Mikes going to be running trips off Monomoy, etc.

And then I say, "So should I sign us up for the first trip on May 5th?"

"No. We're going to NJ that weekend for my mothers birthday party."

(Emphasis on the period at the end of the sentance.)

"Oh ya, I forgot. I'm looking forward to that."
