Have a company Cingular and a personal Sprint. Both worked fine last week, at $1.00 a minute. Remeber to dial 001 before the area code and number for US calls.

I recommend the phones at any of the various internet cafes. This is what my wife and I use when we call home to check on the kids. They can be found for 40-50 cents a minute and our experience is they always seem to round DOWN to the nearest minute and charge nothing if the line is busy or your call does not go through (even if we get an answering machine, if we hung up we were never charged for the calls) Seems we can make two five or ten minute calls home and it is only 3 or 4 dollars. We always leave an extra dollar for a tip! Use a hotel phone once, a few years ago and the 5 minute call was almost 70 dollars! Yup, I recommend the internet cafes.

Hi All,

I've been to Cozumel a couple of times on cruises and have found that I can't use those AT&T prepaid cards to call home but I've always tried them close to the ship docks. Does anyone know if they can be used in town or at the hotels? We are staying at the Fiesta Americana from February 1st - February 8th. If the AT&T prepaid cards don't work, what do you use to call home? Thanks for any info!

Michelle

I've made calls from the hotel and it was 32.00 for about ten minutes.Bad idea. I've made calls from pay phones calling collect. Still a bad idea. For the last 4 years I have had a cell phone that would let me call home. I am told that you need a' digital trimode hand set " that's what they told me at Verizon when I bought the phone. Dont ask me, it works and I love it. Dial 001 then area code and number. For me it's 69 cents a minute plus 2.50 hook up charge. That's 9.40 for ten minutes instead of 32.00 . And you can make the call from anywhere. Better deal.

T-mobile works great for me in Coz. About $1.50 per minute and no roaming on my plan. I just check in and get my voicemail -- I don't go there to chat on the phone.

Calling to check on the kids - $5 to $70
Taking the kids with you - $2,600
NOT using the phone for a week - priceless

I just got back from Coz and had good luck with the internet cafes. $5 for 12 min, $10 for 24min. I too have had very bad luck with hotel phones and collect calls.
Also, the cost for internet use is very low.
Enjoy !

No roaming on T-mobile.

This is by far the best info you'll find on using cell phones in Coz.

I just returned and my verizon phone worked perfectly - I upgraded to the North America Plan for a month. Supposedly I will not be charged any roaming fees whatsover - we'll see.

Thanks. After reading that convuluted cell phone advice I still think it's best to use a Mexican calling card. Thanks for the link.
