It's likely to be very simple to fix it yourself if you it's inconvenient for you to send it back. Do you want to do that? You might need to buy a tool or two, but having those will definitely come in handy. I (or lots of other regular posters) can easily talk you through it.

It's not really a pain to adjust a 2nd stage without an inline tool, both awap and I, and many others, have been doing it for years. It might take 5 minutes instead of 30 seconds. But an IP gauge is a necessity and very useful to have around anyways. You don't need a magnahelic either, you can simply adjust it so it doesn't freeflow and breathes easily.

On my Hog regs (at least the Zenith, not sure about the classic), you can't use an inline tool as it has to be an allen wrench to adjust the second stage. Eitherway, I agree with you. Get an IP gauge and a few basic hand tools most people should already have anyway (allen wrench, left-hand speedwrench) and do it yourself.....OR take it to a proper reg tech if you're not comfortable doing it yourself. The fancy tools are nice, but not necessary IMO.

However, if someone is uncomfortable adjusting it themselves paying a reg tech a few bucks to remedy it would be great....as long as taking it back to your Hog dealer isn't an option.

The fact that the freeflow stops as you inhale suggests a rather minor tweak will do the trick. I am somewhat surprised that you can not stop that freeflow using just the user control.

nah, its much easier to insult/blame the manufacturer....

I was thinking that too but then it looked like he already had the adjustment pretty far in. He plays with the knob a bit and it didn't seem to change. The fact that it stops when he inhales (when IP drops) is an indication that either the 2nd stage is set a bit light for that IP or the IP is a bit high.

The scubatools inline adjuster works with slotted or hex orifaces...just switch sides.

My brand new HOG regulator free flows. It breaths great, but the free flow is unacceptable. I haven't been successful in getting support from HOG. I was told the 2nd stage was tuned to the first stage but... if that's the case I think someone screwed up. Any ideas on what the problem is and how to get it fixed? I do not have the knowledge to fix this myself.

Who at HOG were you talking to? I don't remember anything like this, I checked with Jack(operations manager) and he does not as well. We don't sell the D2 with a second stage already attached, so a dealer would have done that.

oh the horror of not having the "popcorn" emoticon....

Seems the dealer that sold him the reg also saw this thread and has reached out to me.

The guy bought the first and second stages as individual components, the dealer has asked him if he wants to send them in so they can tune it for the individual. Guess in some way the OP feels he will get a better result by coming on SB and telling lies.

Regardless, he can send it to the dealer he purchased the reg from and they will happily tune them to match, or to us and we will do so as well.
I'm not going to play anymore on this thread.

WHAT??? Since when?? I think you're lying :D. Or had them change their tool in the last few hours.

Jokes aside, I guess that's what I get for assuming!

if you are in the east bay, take it to steele's shop on telegraph ave in oakland

OK, you now made me a liar (said I was done with this thread) But your comment is off topic...

How much you wanna bet? The Scubatools inline adjuster does both slotted and hex. It has for at least 15 years.

It also comes with instructions...
