In the south a 7mm fullsuit is plenty, up north unless very active, I need more than that. 1.5mm shorts and vest underneath the 8/7/6/5 is better, but not enough for a relaxed dive. Still looking for good gloves. Dry is incomparable for comfort, but comparatively cumbersome.

I use an aluminum plate and smallish wing for single steel tank.

Depends on my mood, but I use a Dive Rite Transplate with SS plate and 30-lbs Venture wing, or a Halcyon Infinity with 30-lbs donut wing. I use a 7mm wetsuit made by an outfit called Horizon Wetsuits down in Fullerton, California.

I own OMS AL plate & Dive Rite SS plate, also use H SS plate quite a few time. I use STA, so switching plate is easy. Of these 3, OMS and H has more steep band so with signle tank setup, the tank is further away from my back. DiveRite, on the other hand, is flatter (same as DSS plate). Personally, I prefer the steeper band of OMS and H because my head will be further away from first stage. Between OMS and H, H is more comfortable.

For wing, I have Oxycheq Mach V 30lb. I like it better than H and DSS wing.

For harness, I started with DiveRite transplate. Now I use basic Dive Rite haness. I prefer basic harness, but I hate the webbing Dive Rite use. It is way too soft and sloppy. The DiveRite crotch strap howeve, is sooo stiff, totally un-reasonable. I am switching out the DR webbing to H and I will make a crotch strap from the soft DR harness webbing.

Sooo true. I tried the DR crotch strap and it felt like a 2x4 between my legs. I have since gotten a nice, soft and flexible strap. The twins thank me every time I suit up. :)

Dive Rite makes 1" and 1.5" crotch straps. I have the 1" on the Dive Rite and 2" on the Halcyon. I notice neither straps.

I just recently stopped using my DR crotch strap. I don't miss it. I had the 2 incher and didn't notice it when diving with a dry suit but it was a bit rough with a 3mm wet suit in warmer waters.
