I’ve only got a couple of dives on my BPW since switching over from my old BCD. Initially I felt like I should use a long yellow hose and octopus as that seemed to be everyone’s preference, but between trips I’ve reconfigured my gear with the AIR 2 I’ve used for nearly 30 years. I prefer a fairly long hose for my primary, so if I have to donate, it’s not a problem. Also, I have my an inflator and “Octo” in one place, and that’s what I’m used to. YMMV.

I’m definitely not one of those air2 haters- I dove mine for at least 10 years before moving to a bpw, And I do miss it every time I have to stuff all of those extra parts my reg bag before I go on vacation. But if you haven’t tried it yet, I’d recommend doing a vertical ascent from around 20 ft to the surface while breathing the air2- it was a much different experience for me on a wing without all of the extra ways to shoulder dump that come standard on scubapro BCDs. And it’s certainly worth practicing a couple of times before you have to do it towing an OOA diver in an emergency

Since I dive up here in the cold Great lakes, I dive a Mares MR22 Abyss and a Mares Proton Metal primary reg for my Octo. I dive with standard hose lengths with my octo around my neck on a rubber bungee.

SP MK25 1st. SP G250 2nds. Identical 2nds so both can breathe easy. Primary donate on 40 inch hose, backup on necklace, 22 inch hose. Keeps it simple, streamlined and easy to deploy if/when needed.

That's my set up too, except I have G260s for my 2nds. Very happy with it.

To answer the question of this thread..... Apex ATX200 primary. Air 2. Mares Navy Abyss on back mounted pony.

I've also been using the Deep 6 signature reg for several years now. Love the turret 1st stage. I just got one for my buddy/wife and seeing it on her I had not realized how streamlined it looks as well.

I've been using Deep 6 for a while now, no complaints. I prefer DIN too, but yoke makes more sense if your're traveling because that's what the tanks will be. Finally, forget about the whole "octopus" thing. Chose your regular and then just get two of whatever second stages you like. I would definitely set things up for primary donate, with your secondary on a necklace.

Agree with Ron.

Deep 6 DIN for me too, signature first and secondary, but excursion second on a necklace. Primary donate, but not the long hose config.
Have a yoke fist stage for travel, haven't used it yet, go figure.

Another Deep 6 user here. Excursion first and Signature seconds--40" primary donate and backup on a necklace.

I use an air 2 on a Bp/w and bc. It is not a problem and yes you should practice its use frequently and during an ascent. It is not as comfortable as a normal octopus, but a soft woven lp inflator hose can help, if you are worried about comfort in a life or death situation.

You also need to remind every buddy to take the regulator from your mouth if there is a problem. Way too many seem to giggle and disregard the warning, but I tell them I have no spare regulators other than the one in my mouth.
