i had 2 weeks great diving there recentley.
i didnt have any problems with the jeep or heard of any theft problems from other guests during that time.
The shallow staghorn coral had taken a battering due to the bad weather but generally the reefs where in good shape.
As a rule i found that the reefs that were dived the most due to the ease of access from the resorts had the most damage and the more obscure sites to the north and south were pretty fantastic.

All this talk of Bonaire has me chomping at the bit to return! End of July seems too far away!

Crime? Yep, seen one construction site burglary myself, but it was about the same sort of petty crime one sees here at home. There does seem to often be window glass at a couple of sites: Andrea II, which has a lot of local foot and car traffic, and 1000 steps, which is pretty easy to hit in a pass by while you are diving down below. Broken glass indicates though, that someone has ignored the caution to leave your vehicle unlock and empty, and preferably with the windows down.

Food is a bit pricey, but not terribly so. No island we visit has low prices, including Long and Manhattan Islands. ;)

A few site have been hit hard by storms like Omar, that really wiped Oil Slick, but over time they seem to be recovering.

Counting the days until our return!!!!

Jim, the other thing that folks forget is glass does not go away over time. A glass broken 10 years ago will still be laying in pretty much the same spot unless someone cleans it up. If the number of broken windows was as high as some make them out to be, the glass would be inches thick, not just scattered into thin areas.

I believe I also commented on that back when PF was on his rampage against Bonaire. In Bonaire's climate there is not a lot of heavy rain to wash the broken glass into the non existent drainage ditches, so it remains on a site for years after an incident. Only a very few sites had that glass the last time I visited Bonaire. (July, 2011)

Speaking of PF, wasn't he from some crime free city like Atlanta, GA? I forget.

You should see how many broken windows we get on a given morning in my neighborhood, which is in quite a nice family oriented area in a suburb of Vancouver. Now that the petty criminals have realized all this dark wooded park area combined with everyone living in condos results in the perfect place to hit cars.

Honestly Bonaire has nothing on this...

Bout as bad, Charlotte NC.

Ah, yes that's right, crime free Charlotte, NC, USA.
Bonaire must have been a real shocker after living in that idyllic setting, where you can just walk away from your car and leave your Rolex and your cash on the seat of your car, with no fear that it won't be there when you return!

The glass observation is valid.
The same little piles of glass in the Andrea (dive site) parking lot were there when we visited back in 2004.

Herman, DD, counting down the days?

I just discovered today that there will be no conflict for this trip, with Morgan's wedding after all!!!!

He learned this morning that he is finishing his training, and graduating on July 12 or 13, and the kids are going to be having their wedding reception on the 22nd, so I am clear to go!!
