I am doing my AOW at blue hole this weekend. When I did my OW I only wore the shorty part of the farmer john as the whole thing was way too hot for me. I recently purchased a 3mm and a hood and wanted thoughts on if this would be enough to dive this weekend? I know it is a personal thing but, is there any other hot blooded folk out there that dive BH in a 3mm?

One of our AIs wears just a fleece suit, even when she's working classes, which usually means 4+ dives a day. I'm at the other end of the spectrum and only dive there dry.

I dive a 3 mil with a hooded vest at blue hole.

I am hot blooded also, and found my Bare 7/6 with no hood to be very nice.
Never cold. The rush of cold each time we entered was quite welcome, but I am not sure that I would dive there in a 3mm.

And I am never cold...always hot.

I can rent the 7mm no problem. I thought that the 3mm might be fine but the more I think about it the more I might regret that decision. Thanks for the thoughts all.

With 5 dives needed for the AOW, I know that for 64 degree water, I needed my 7/6 BARE Full , just as Justin said when I did mine back in May. I have a vest with hood, and didn't need that. Most of the group two weeks ago was in dry suits.

The hood makes a big difference, about as much as 1-2 extra mm of wetsuit, the highs there this weekend are forecast to be in the 80s, and for some it might be enough - I think I dived there some in a 3 mil when I was new and moved around in the water too much. But for 5 dives, it'd be pushing it - probly kill you on the night dive. I did my AOW night dive in a 3mil in 72F Balmorhea after diving twice earlier in the day and came out running for the hot showers. You'll be safer in the 7mil, no hood, and if you get hot in the parking lot - pour cold water on your head.

If I were you I would rent more suit than you think you might need if possible and if you are getting that hot by all means wear the 3mm but it is always nice to have a backup.

I dove it in a 3mm with a 7mm shorty that I rented from Stella that may have well been left on shore. The bottom zipper was ripped off the Neo for about 6", and when I finally zipped it to the top, it would not stay, and for most of the dive, the entire front of the 7mm suit was open. I was not freezing, but after a 50minute dive, I was getting cold. No hood or gloves however.

I could likely dive in a 3mm, but I think I would get VERY cold after 3 dives especially as we generally do 40~50minute dives. However the biggest factor would be the air temp outside. On a 90F sunny summer day, diving in a 3mm maybe OK. On a 32F windy day, you are going to freeze your tail off during Surface intervals. You should have good weather this weekend.

I dive it dry, no hood, no gloves, even in winter. Most people dive it with a 7mm fullsuit. I'd personally error on the side of warmth. This is an 85' deep hole at altitude, and being cold can contribute to DCS.
