Looks like my usual LDS ( Fun Diver in Centerpoint, Al ) has closed up shop. Anyone in the area recommend a LDS for tank / reg service? Seems like in recent years several of the LDS's have closed up or just charge way to much. Willing to travel an hour or so in any direction for good service at reasonable prices.

:dontknow:

The only two I know of in the Birmingham area are ABWA and Scubaventures

The cost of which was one of the reason I decided to swap over to either Diverite or HOG regs(I ended up going with HOG but both offer there service kits online for the DIY'r)

My wife and I were certified at Southern Skin Divers Supply and I agree, they are definitely top notch. We get our gear serviced there and will continue to do so even though we live in Atlanta now. We travel back to Birmingham often as my wife's family is there so it is still convenient for us.

I can also tell you they go the extra mile for their customers. We stopped in to practice our skills at the pool recently because we had a trip to Grand Cayman planned and it had been over 6 months since we dived. We asked about getting my wife's mask fitted with prescription lenses so she doesn't have to wear contacts for diving. Forrest told us it usually takes about 10-14 days to get it done, and we were leaving in 2 weeks so we figured it might be too close to get it done and get the mask shipped to us in Atlanta. He said to leave it anyways, he'd get it done. Forrest came in on a day they were closed because we had to get my wife's glasses prescription and fax it in. He got it ordered that day, and the lenses came in the next Tuesday. Forrest got them installed tested and in the mail to us that day so we were able to receive the mask with time to spare. My wife loves having the prescription mask now and it definitely improved our trip not having to worry about that extra detail.

I agree that prescription lenses are the way to go. My old mask finally just fell apart and had to buy a new one - first thing I started looking for were who offered prescriptions and masks that would fit my big head.

another plug for Southern Skin Divers. Thet are diving the O next saturday with us and the Navy Tug on Sun. A Great group of guys and gals.

Southern Skin Divers, for sure. I have been very satisfied with their service, and the folks there are about as nice as you'll find.
