Was that advice you were giving? On what, how to formulate a defense...? Thx! I dont know if the 33years adds to your credibilty either... Time and age is not as relevent to actual experiance when it comes to diving. By that math, my grandfather who started diving back in 1942 has both of us beat. I can say in reality since he only has around 150 dives while in the navy combined with another 100 over the years scuba diving while on vacation, he is stil a newbie when it comes to scuba diving... By your logic we are both clowns, thx for allowing me to stoop to your level for a bit. At best we can agree to disagree... I'll leave it at that.

Actually time is relevant, you have a chance to see in that perfect 20/20 hindsight the evolution of dive equipment over a significant span of years. It does not make you an expert, but it does give you an enhanced perspective. I stand with the OP, buy on your needs not on price or brand.

You are correct in that I am not presenting data, but then again I am not making grandiose statements like you made in post #4, "... you go and by 250.00 Unnamed*** Cheapo and guess what you just bought a POS". At least you didn't say "buy a $250 regulator and you will die".

BTW: Proof your post, they will read better.

.......... Except you left out the part were its full of the occasional weekend warriors who think their opinion matters to anyone other then themselves.

If that is not a cocky attitude, nothing is. What a shame a statement is made like that which demeans most of the diving community.

I have been looking in on this thread and getting quite a chuckle out of it. The fact is that for recreational diving of the type most do any midline reg is going to work and work well. Top of the line, if there actually is one, kinda strikes me as funny. $1000.00 for a reg is about status IMO. A new ow diver that spends that for a vacation reg is puzzling to me.

Mention was made of a titanium reg. Why? I can see for travel to reduce weight but to pay a grand for one. Nah. I can completely outfit a new diver for less in gear that will last a long time from many sources. I was hoping to open peoples eyes a bit to the point that Lynne made. High price is no indication of the quality and value of gear if those high prices keep you from diving.

I personally think it is about reliability when it comes to regs. I dive cold water so I need a cold water reg. Since this is our "life support", it needs to be very reliable. Most people associate price with quality and it is true in most but not all cases. I just want my gear to work and last a very long time.

Your right, I’m sorry... Yes I am cocky, unfortunately an abundance of experience and confidence can come out that way when not kept in check... see I did it again. The term weekend warrior, spawns from the reserve military. That, if you don’t know is 1 weekend a month and 1-2 full weeks a year...(assuming there not overseas or during war time...) If you’re not diving at least that much you might as well stay a passport diver... I believe as a whole, the diving community surpasses that standard and what I said would not apply to them. However if you fit the weekend warrior I describe, sorry I really don’t care about your opinion when it comes to diving matters unless you are involved in the industry in some other aspect...

That is really sad! By your definition a weekend warrior spends 29-36 days a year diving (about 100-140 dives per year). For sure, someone at this level might not match the experience of a full time instructor, but it is significant none the less. More importantly as in instructor, these weekend warriors are you best source of recurring revenue as they are more likely to both need and purchase additional training. On top of that they tend to buy lots of gear since they most likely have a decent job. Yet to totally dismiss this entire class in a arrogant and rude manner.

Jim correct me if I am wrong, titanium regs are only able to use 21% as they are not good to use for higher% or other gasses, that is why I would think a new OW diver and a vacation diver would buy one as all the nitrox that is available.

Hey Grump,

Really...? Of course your math will validate your point. Typical political propaganda... Lets fudge the numbers to make our point. If I said I went diving last weekend, how many times did I actually dive? Well I could have dove 1 time last weekend... So by your math those numbers would be much different. Lets say a minimum of 29 to a max of 108= (thats an average of 3 dives per day everytime you go out) an average of 69 dives per year not 100-140... You smell like "Tea Party" lmao... Your opinion on revenue is hillarious. I am not concerned with what that diver does with his money. If they listen to people like you, then what they spend wouldnt even be worth my time anyways....

You are wrong, they are rated to 40% O2 as with most other regs straight out of the box these days.... What you have said is nothing but a myth... Call the manufacturers.
