best dive computer under 450 for newbie

Scubapro/SubGear/Uwatec XP-10. It was also a Tester's Choice. The XP-10 meets all your requirements. It is an excellent computer at a great price!

For once I agree with Beaver Divers. The xp-10 is a decent computer with a DSS bungee mount available. If you want to down load your dives you can usually find cheap IRDA to US adapters for under $10 on Amazon, not the ridiculous price of around $100 the dive manufacturers charge.

If you don't require a bungee mount or download capability I would go for the Hollis DG02. It is hands down the easiest dive computer I have used to date and has gauge mode. If you feel you ever might move to tech forget the XP-10 as it does not have gauge mode.
