Hi Richard, thanks for the positive comment on the Vyper! I also think it's a fantastic computer and was very dependable. Just don't know how it will do since I haven't dived with it. Pretty sure battery wasn't low and still isn't because I replaced it before that trip due to it being low. There is nothing wrong with the computer, I have the same one and it's also 20 years old. It freaked out because the battery was old almost dead. That computer is awesome. I think it's the best one ever made. The new version is also great.
Hey guys, this exact same things just happened to me (also a Vyper, but from 2009) immediately after a battery change. I don't see how it could be the battery, since the battery guage on startup said the battery was fine. Since a few folks suggested dirty contact as the problem for it going into dive mode, it's in a bowl of water soaking, but I can hear the beeping from here. Feeling very sad about this if my computer is dead.Hi Richard, thanks for the positive comment on the Vyper! I also think it's a fantastic computer and was very dependable. Update on this. Reviewed my logs and it looks like all 4 of my doa incidents followed extensive pool dives.Sounds like symptoms of pressure sensor membrane failure. Have had this occur on 4 of my cobras in the past 2 years. All of them older than 12 years old.
Wasn't able to reset mine, though. They just up and STB. The membrane over the sensor softened and tore. In one case the membrane became gel-like and sticky.
