For those who use a 84" hose that routes around the neck, where do you clip it off when it's stowed on the boat waiting for a dive?
It's either in your mouth or clipped off on the chest D-ring.

Okay, dummy question on clipping off the 2nd stage. I see people have a single ended clip that appears to be secured to the elbow with a zip tie, and the clip end attaches to the D ring. That leaves the clip dangling when the regulator is in the mouth. I see the same kind of setup on the SPG. Is it possible to use a double ended clip, and leave the clip attached to the D ring, and have the other clip end grab a rubber ring or something similar on the regulator end? Seems that way, there would be one less thing dangling when in use.

You could do that but in practice the Hog way is the best way, lol! Tie, with cave line, the small bolt snap to the regulator hose about two inches down from the fitting. It will be fine. For the spg, using cave line, tie a large(er) bolt snap either to the hose at the base of the fitting or some of us tie the bolt snap into the gap between the spg and hose fitting at the swivel.

Also, on the HP hose, I have a very simple console with SPG, depth and compass as a backup if something goes awry with my watch AI computer. Hopefully, I never need to use it. Is it reasonable to clip that console off with a simple retractor instead of a fixed clip? If my computer stops working or I feel the need to use an analog compass, I can pull it forward on the retractor. Otherwise, it just stays where it is.

It doesn't seem like it would ever interfere with anything but I know dangling gear is frowned upon so I thought I'd ask. Is there a most common length for the clip? The ones I see in pictures here appear about 4".

I promise, my last post in this thread .

I hate retractors!!!!!!!!! If you insist on a mini console, which is not minimalist or Hogarthian, then rather than a retractor I would still use a bolt snap to the hip D ring on the left side. I know, you want to use what you have but I would avoid a retractor, OMV.

Edit 1 to add to rather than post again, when Mr. Jim Lapenta speaks you should listen carefully. :)

Edit 2 to add that your buddy is part of your system and you his/hers. I differ from the DIR crowd in the always the same rig no matter what for all team members. But your buddy is a critical component of your safety and you should both have well thought out rigs and be familiar and trained with each others equipment as your buddy is your OOA redundancy. My wife, a diver of forty plus years, does not rig like me but it is well thought out and practiced and her equipment is every bit as good as mine if not better.

For the SPG (and console on the reg sets that have them), I usually just tuck them through through mu shoulder strap. They stay put pretty well, and if I needed to move them I just pull the out from behind it.
As to the bolt snap on the second stage, you'll find it's really unobtrusive in use.

Respectfully,

James

Please chime in wherever you can. This is my first personally owned BC device and complete kit. Other than my own mask, fins, snorkel, boots etc, I have mostly just used rental stuff. I want to make diving something I do for the rest of my life, however long I can. In that case, I feel I need to own my own gear and build the appropriate muscle memory and skills to make it as enjoyable as possible. I know I ask a lot of questions but that's less from overthinking and more from a lack of experience and a desire to create a setup that others have had success with and I won't feel the need to change much over time. So any input I can get, I am a sponge and will soak it up and hopefully be setup to not learn bad habits from day one with my new gear.
