if you use a plate, you can attach it and the harness to the outside. It leaves plenty of room inside for the wing, regs, etc. if you have a short set of fins or a pair that can be disassembled like the tusa’s, you could fit everything inside that one bag.

I have carried it many times as my personal item. Because it is not rigid, the gate people seem not to care that is it potentially larger than the personal item size. It could be squished into the personal item sizing device.

Buy a duffle bag from a company that specialises in high quality duffle bags and back packs. (I don't buy my regulators from the company that makes my swim suit!)

I have 6 The North Face duffle bags in 3 sizes; all can be carried as a back pack with removable shoulder straps. And they withstand Himalayan travel! But I prefer my large Swiss Army ballistic nylon suitcase on skateboard sized wheels, that carries all my dive gear (BP&W, regulator, fins, 3mm wetsuit, etc.) I then take as carry-on a 20 or 30 litre pack. I find this combination easier to move myself from an airport, to a bus or train, to a ferry, and finally to my dive location, than a duffle bag.

Do you have the 22l duffle? If so how much scuba gear do you believe you could fit in it?

22 l is fairly small; It might be good if you have the basic gear (mask, snorkel, fins and computer), and then rent the rest when you travel. You may have difficulty putting your fins in the 22 l bag. Measure your fins, and then look for a bag with at least the length of your fins.

I know my fins won’t fit. Too long. But I thought someone had posted in the past and I can’t find the thread but they had pictures and were able to fit a full set of scuba gear in the 22l minus fins. I also don’t remember if they had a wetsuit but part of me thinks they had a 3m. Could be wrong. That’s why I asked

Have you looked at the ortlieb? From around here, they seem pretty good (a bit pricey) but they have a very interesting range of backpack duffle bags waterproof, with or without wheels.

I’m considering their 85l no wheels

Good information on this thread. I am headed to Mexico in November (Fingers-Crossed) for some cave diving. I have two of the Santi/Halcyon Duffle Bags, but need something for travel. the Patagonia or TNF seem to be good options. Anyone have any other recommendations?

I carried this Akona all the way to India and it worked perfectly. Fit everything Dive related and I took everything, including 3mm wet suit, gloves, hood and regulators. Fins worked well strapped to the outside, carried on everywhere and had no space issues even when in the cattle car on the final leg of our journey.
