Can't forget #9. One must feel the substrate while not actually touching it. That is why the H-mat is made of thin material like a clapped out yoga mat.

I prefer to not feel it and thus use a 1/2" foam pad.
 
My buddy and I were laughing when we saw it. I use a single foam mat from harbor freight. It is from an interlocking set of 4, cost $6, and I have the other 3 in my garage still.

I just use a 6’x8’ tarp that I got at Harbor Freight for less than $10.

I use the closest piece of grass.

I've always looked it this way, when making my internal comparison...
The DIR/GUE crowd are like the Evangelical Christians in the sense that:
There is NO WAY you can be a good Person without following/living by a certain set of rules.

Substitute Diver for Person and you can see the comparison
